Very Interesting Altec's

[SoCal Sam]

Very interesting Altec's here:

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/ele/3674239340.html

Anyone know about these?

[janikphoto]

What the hell kind of ad was that? No price, says lost in the beginning, then says must sell near the bottom?!? I flagged it as spam. But, yeah, those altecs look mean!!!!

[1tumbleweed]

Looks like Altec components in a custom cabinet, as evidenced by the "South Coast" nameplate and serial number.

Kinda nice, don't know if they're worth 10 large...

[Mystery]

Is there supposed to be a decimal somewhere in the price? :headscrat

[vintageboy]

$10,005 :scratch2::scratch2::thumbsdn:

Look like a baby Model 19.

[Fran604g]

...MUST SELL...at 10 grand, yeah, me too. :screwy:

[bowtie427ss]

about 8500-9000 high i'd say.

Take away the price and they're a very nice clean custom entry that would sonically fall somewhere inbetween a Valencia "B" model and a model 19. I kinda like em.

They are pretty cool! :thmbsp:

[perperp]

That guy has been relisting those for months and months.

[Ghonk]

Make sure you bring that extra 5.
At that price it looks like the speakers will be living aboard toUI OUI

[hjames]

Very nice lookers - SAF is high - price is dreamtime!

[bevador]

I Spoke with the seller. He is legit. The design is by the guy who developed the tangerine phase plug. I am interested in the cabinet design. I love it. The seller says it is superior to the 19. Two pairs in existance.

[Sam Cogley]

The serial number pictured would seem to belie that claim.

[gogofast]

for 10 grand? seriously? if the seller's really counting on making that much money with that pair, there's no market for it, really. re-design of a well known model for 10 times the price?

[squirrelnest]

Interesting speakers....I'd like to get my hands on those....but at that price!

[janikphoto]

The serial number pictured would seem to belie that claim.

Not necessarily. If only two pair were really made, they may have just used serial number plates from a line that was already in production... cheaper than retooling anything for a one-off. My question is "who actually made the pair and who got the other pair?" The post is a little vague as to who is actually making what for whom.

manta ray ??? horn

South Coast Sound was an audio store that built custom speakers. then reopened as a car stereo store after the name was sold.

I highly doubt only two of those speakers exist. The serial number is unique from the other few vague references to South Coast Sounds Speakers. Guy wants 9000 to much in my opinion. Would be fun to hear the story he has behind the speakers though. Must be a good one. :scratch2:
