Indeed....although it was a lifetime ago (53 years), if I close my eyes for a minute, all those old familiar sounds and smells come flooding back. Amazing what an impact that had on us, we were kids when we went over there, and old men when we came back....
Recently saw a TV commercial, an insurance pitch for a veteran-based program. It showed a room with seven or eight elderly gents, sitting around talking. Since I was not really paying attention, it took me a few seconds to notice that each of them had the same pale blue ribbon around their necks. This immediately brought tears to my eyes....sometime in the distant past, each of them had done something brave enough (or foolish enough) to earn them the Congressional Medal Of Honor....
To all my fellow vets (present and departed), I salute you !
