Hi All, I'm looking to put together my first HiFi setup and I'm keen to get a late 70s, early 80s receiver/integrated amplifier to pair with some entry level audiophile headphones. I'm struggling to understand matching headphone and receiver output impedance. With info like headphone output impedance being quite hard to find online for each model, it seems the safer bet is to go for a pair of high impedance headphones which are less likely to distort in the lower frequencies when poorly matched with a receiver. Does anyone have success stories with combining low - medium impedance dynamic driver headphones with vintage receivers or amplifiers? Specifically Sennheiser models like the HD 599, HD 600, HD 550s or Grado Models like SR80 - SR125.

Any info or recommendations from those more knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated! :)

No problems using a 70's receiver with the cans you listed. HD 6XX and Grado's sound great on my old units.
Only issues I have run across is powering older Fostex T50RP's that are planars and seem to require alot more power than dynamic driver cans to achieve the same SPL.
