Hey everyone I am interested in what you guys have in the way of vintage receivers and speakers. Lets keep the time frame from 1970 to maybe 1983. It seems after that the quality of the builds kinda went down. I just picked up a kenwood kr6400 for 100 bucks. It is flawless built I believe between 73 and 76. I love this thing it has plenty of knob and the tuner works perfect. It reproduces sound better than the pioneer sx780 I just sold for 275 bucks. I have the 6400 connected to two marantz imperial towers on channel A and some bose 301s III on channel C. Don't give me a hard tiime about the 301s they were cheap and have better sound than something 3 times as expensive. For my vinyl I have a mcs 6700 series turntable that I got for less than a hundred dollars five years ago. This setup does a great job of getting that sound reproduction that we all crave. Clear highs, fantastic mids and punchy bass. What do you all have. I of course have dream systems that I will have one day such as top end pioneers or marantz but they are super expensive and hard to find a good unmolested one. Also if you could mention how you have your system connected. I am just an amateur so I am still experimenting with setups and such. Thanks

just read the signatures of those that post them. You can also just read ak as we talk about all the stuff in our systems.

I have a TandbergTR-2045, Pioneer SX-5580 and a couple Luxman receivers, R-1050 and R-3055 two of the best ever built. I use separate components in the main and bedroom rigs.

Speakers are DCM Time Windows and Dahlquist DQ-10, plus some to new for the list and a set of Boston A200 and Luxman MS-10.
getting folks to list their gear can produce some very long lists.
 
Hey thanks for your reply. I love luxman recievers my late uncle had a beautiful luxman that I was set to inherit. However it ended up in storage at one of his friends houses. When I tried to get it back he told me that it had broken along with a pair of Tannoy towers so he threw them away. I was so pissed to say the least. I could have fixed them both. Anyway thats my sob story for the day. I have not heard of Tandberg but they sound amazing. Pioneer is usually very solid from that time period. Like I said I had sx780 that I rescued from the dump. It had been an outdoor workhorse for more than two decades. It was dinged up and the nobs and switches were all bent but I put two hundred dollars into it and it became a decent reciever. Anyway Love Dahlquist and bostons are also great. Thanks for listing your stuff. Put up some pics if you want .,
 
I have a few, and also have a Kenwood receiver. It's the KR-9400, and was purchased new by my father at Pacific Stereo in Pleasant Hill/Concord.

Speakers: ADS L1290 II, JBL L100, RSL Elan, modified Acoustic Monitor(White Van).

I have written extensively about the Dahlquist and have pictures in some threads as I’ve rebuilt a couple pair and just finished a third pair, but these are hot rodded with the Randall Research upgrades. I’ll be posting about them soon, got the boys dropping by for a listen tomorrow with a cartridge comparison session on the agenda, too. I’m computer limited these days, not using the desktop, just the tablet and don’t have easy access to all the photos, most already posted. You can search Dahlquist, DQ-10 and Blue Shadow to find plenty of old posts. But there is that new one coming soon.

Those 1500s are sweet I used to have a pair of 2500s I picked up at goodwill for 15 bucks. They had a few dents and dings but they sounded great. I ended up selling them for other stuff but I would probably own another pair if I found a good set. What year is your pioneer?

Been loving my 'vintage' receivers more than ever lately... here goes:

Marantz 18, 19, 2252b, 2270 x 2 (early gold/engraved ones)

Pioneer SX1010, 850, 980

Sansui 9090, 9090db, G9000

^^^all of the above in a large room, each with their own speaker wire terminated in bananas. I have 2 Legacy Studio Monitors, so I just pick any 2 receivers and plug the bananas into them. Easy peasy.^^^

Another room:

Scott 399, 340a

Fisher 500c

Pioneer 737

I use wall mounted NHT Super Ones, hybrid Altec Valencias and KEF LS50s. Also have a few Best Buy 'inexpensive' speakers I use from time to time...Pioneer BS22/Sony SSCS5/Eton B5.

I started this in the very early 2000's... (didn't ever think it would grow to this). As far as a 'work in progress', the progress stopped many years ago.

I was thinking about that while posting. I know I didn't spend anywhere near a 1000 on any of them.

The one that sticks out in my mind the most is the Marantz 2252b:... Ad read: "Mint Condition with original mint wood case/gone thru by Terry DeWick...$350." :yikes:. The 'TD' mention is what made me want it... he was/is legendary. Seller even shipped it in an original McIntosh amp box (also legendary:)). Still works perfectly.

Stuff was $1 per watt for one channel. The name brand tax was $1 a watt, counting both channels.

Gear was easy to find and haul home.
