Vintage TT in the $1,000 range ?

A little history, I use a Sansui 9090db with Sansui SP-5000 (yes the beastly ones). My current TT is a Pioneer PL-518 with a AT440mlb going into a Vincent Pho-8. I play mostly classic rock to relatively loud levels :) . I posted 10 years ago (damn time flies) that I was interested in upgrading my Pioneer but my budget then was only $500 and most felt I couldn't find much better than my PL-518. I did end up getting the Vincent preamp and have been quite satisfied. But some times you get an itch for something new or well new to me. Been eyeballing these Kenwood KD-500, KD-650 and the KD-7010, 9010 units with the crazy aluminum frame under its skin and I believe its Japanese market equivalent KP's. Then there is the "sweet looking" Sansui XR-Q7, the SR-929 and SR-838. Pioneer wise, there is the PL-90, PL-560, PL-630. Now Im just talking TT in the $1,000 range. As far as cartridges, thats another story for later. Any input on these listed or missed is appreciated. Thanks

Hell no, Technics has absolutely nothing new that will compete with the Kenwood KP-1100 and other Kennys with the cast aluminum subchassis.

If you want to see what Kenwood was capable of check out the legendary L07D which still commands about 5G used. It's heads above anything Technics ever made.
 
Ah man what's that other Kenwood I'm thinking about that people like to run "nude" without the plinth that has the really cool subchassis.
 
Ive looked at Thorens online and ones I have seen looked like something from the early 60's. Yours look great 4-2-7 !!! Will have to throw the 125 into the search. Ive seen many nice TT's on eBay from Japan, but usually shy away from overseas purchases. There is a Kenwood KD-500 Direct-Drive Turntable w/ SME III Tonearm & Grado Gold Cartridge, on eBay (pickup only). Its in Chicago which is a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive for me. I hate driving in Chicago, hell I hate driving in any big city (country boy).

The L-07D is a nice machine, and I personally find the industrial design appealing, but there isn’t a universe where I’d say it’s heads above [everything] Technics made. I find the SL-1000MK3 a far more compelling offering, as well the SP-10R. I haven’t spent much time with the SL-1000R.

Likewise I haven’t spent time with the KP-1100. Which of the newer Technics units have you compared your KP-1100 to, and what were the aspects you found so different?
