Sarah Mclachlan has quit a few albums on Classic Records, this is top notch audioplile mastering and pressing like MFSL.

Classic Records is the company and it's impossible to search eBay under "Records" using that name as records are classic as is classic rock. What I do is enter the vinyl name, QUIEX or QUIEX SV-P. Back in the day artist had some titles master and pressed on QUIEX vinyl for promos for best SQ to send out to DJs and radio stations.

You'll be surprised at all the records that where put out through the 80s on these labels that where geared for SQ.

I've got ASIA's first album on QUIEX and it sounds fantastic!
 
It's odd but for this genre of over produced treble heavy music I prefer my Pioneer table and stock M97xe over my Roksan and Goldring 1042. The rolled off highs and pronounced mids give that music a more realistic honest sound.
 
Sammy Hagar stuff from the eighties is fantastic. voa is available from a few places online as NOS for not too much money.
 
Tesla made note on all their albums "no machines", and had a double cd release of covers called "real to reel", all analog recorded. Not a "hair" band by any means, and all their vinyl sounds great.
 
It was the Big Hair bands that drove me to Blues, Zydeco, "New Music" (B52's, Talking Heads, The The, Oingo Boingo, Shreikback, Brian Briggs etc) and classical again. I thought it was the worst. The bands sounded like they were only in it for money and chicks. Unimaginative, noisy with unremarkable melodies.

Cool, so what 80's big hair music are you recommending on vinyl, cause that's what the title of this threads about.

80's hair isn't my favorite either. I like a lot of it though. If I ever wanna hear guys in bowling shirts and Sinatra hats play 12 bars in unending pattern, stop between each verse to shout out their name (like anyone would care who they are) while singing about making deals with the devil, picking cotton, pouring gas on their wives or steamtrains, I'll turn to your blues. Meanwhile back to the musicians who can learn songs with turnarounds, bridges and chorus and who have the talent for stacked harmonies and creativity, do you have any suggestions?

The kids in junior high who were into Oingo Boingo were defiantly not in it for the chicks, they already had boyfriends.

Long live fuzz, phasers and Les Pauls!

Well looking at this image. I think they qualify as a "hair band". Heck Troy even has the bandanna and a jean jacket. Lots of hair there. And I like Tesla., so no hating here.

I picked up a Cult album for $2.00... Not sure what it is, 3 songs per side 12"? Anyway it sounds great.

There were so many copy cat bands back then it was almost impossible to tell some of them apart. A fast buck was what most of the bands were all about and most never made it past their first album. Earlier bands trying to keep up with the 80's trend were pretty lame and just didn't belong. Some of the bands I did enjoy listening to were Loverboy (even though the band was not very talented) their albums were recorded well. Krokus was another band that was recorded well that I still have and listen to every now and then (metal rendez-vous) and even though Guns N' Roses came out in the later part of the 80' they were still considered a hair band and their first album was a great pressing. One of my favorite bands of all time "The Scorpions" (when they had Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar) went 80's hair band when Mathias Jabs joined the band and they went in a different direction. All of their albums sounded great, especially if they were German pressing. I still have 7 or 8 of their albums and they all sound fantastic. Probably my favorite Scorps album would be Tokyo Tapes. I would highly recommend getting a Scorpions album recorded in Germany.

Some mentioned like Dio, Accept and Saxon I wouldn't call hair bands. Fifty percent of the members in those bands didnt even have long hair. lol

No one mentioned Great White. The first one is excellent.

Yep, gotta have some mikey schenker and the boys. I just couldn't list them as an 80's hair band. I have the original 1979 recording but there is a new 2013 pressing of the album which I would love to get and will at some point. Great band
 
It seemed an eternity that big hair rock ruled the airwaves. It really wasn't my thing back then. I liked some of it but even back then I was more about the late 60's and 70's.

Still, I'm very surprised how thin this thread is.... I would have thought there would be lots and lots of suggestions and posts.

Don't forget Poison, and I believe you mean Kix, not Kicks. I lived in the area they came out of when they were in their heyday. Saw them live a good bit in local joints.
 
I'm seconding how good Cinderella can sound on vinyl. In fact, listening to the title track from Long Cold Winter on a mid-fi vinyl setup is really what got me into records. It's actually jaw dropping.

Now I am a fan of The Cult, one of my fav rock bands. But I don't think they qualify as a hair band, but the definition is pretty loose for this thread. Its pretty much any rockers with a lot of hair!

The Cult was more on the leading edge of Goth than anything else. They mixed in a lot of mystic and nature kind of themes to their lyrics. Kind of like heavy metal druids. Now Sonic Temple might have gotten the most radio play, and had the most commercial success. But Electric and Ceremony are a couple of their best albums. Electric is a bit of an acquired taste, but it is a wicked good album.
