In fact from the list that your making your really more into Stadium Hard Rock Bands.
The term Hair bands started with the LA club scene and most those bands could never fill a stadium, Mötley Crüe was able to transcend this though in a lot of ways.
A lot of old rock today is called Classic Rock, that's a newer term. We called different rock names like Pop Rock, Acid Rock, Physic Rock, Hard Rock, Rock-n-Roll, nothing classic about it, it was all new.
As equipment evolved and bands could start filling bigger venues, and guitar amps, speaker stacks, pedals could help sustained notes, we started getting what was called Hard Rock.
A little bit of a shift from a real blues rock sound happened with what I call Musical Orgasm. Long guitar and drum solos, music got very loud and harder "Hard Rock"...more cow bell..
Hard Rock filled stadiums and sold a ton of LPs at the hight of the record industry.

While I left out a lot you can get the premiss, some bands formed after others broke up. The
Scorpions really got their big break opening for Nugent. By the late 70s and early 80s everyone was so ****ed up doing drugs dancing to disco, and or going to big huge concerts. Then came punk and new wave (Anti conformity to labels) but everyone was still ****ed up and the life of good times and excess still was present.
Enter the biggest cesspool of the LA club scene.....Hair Bands. Most didn't do well at all and might have one or two radio play song.
But just because MTV and videos became popular and Van Halen and bands did them they are no where near a hair band. Some of it was just the look of 80s excess, a change in pop culture that I'm sure a lot of them wish they where as secretive and mystique as the Gods of Hard Rock

I guess I assumed everyone was on page with me about what defined "Big Hair 80's" but when I try to define it I guess I didn't really know what I mean either lol. To me Big Hair are all those bands such as Poison, Montly Crew... But I sorta kinda put Def Leppard and Cult in there too. Like Mister Pig said they had something else going on. To me even though Cheap Trick are a 70's band, I didn't get into them until Lap of Luxery in the 80's... So I guess from my perception they were a big hair band too.
How about just great 80's hard rock.. Not pop. I like some pop too but not in this thread.

All totally valid point, when you said Big Hair, I think we all start thinking Hair Bands witch really was a derogatory term.
You know Tom Petty went to LA to make it big at that time but didn't want to fall into the "LA club scene" nor did he want a synthesizer in his music. He felt it would date his music and the scene was tacky, he was right.
So you want 80s rockers witch really started getting way more metal but never the less rock..,,or noise
