Even with massive overexposure to these tracks it's a nice listen. I had lots of playing time with the SD titles back in the day, as they sounded very nice on everybodys 70s era gear, especially nice on the massive speakers in the stereo showrooms, so they were pretty much all you'd hear.

Anthony Braxton Arista Years Recital - Part Two:
Five Pieces 1975

It can often be all of that, though while most of the material that is ostensibly jazz is in the avant-garde vein, jazz forms, rhythms and movement remain recognizable. We're not talking late Coletrane skronk by any stretch of the imagination.
Braxton draws as much from the European 20th century avant-garde for inspiration and a point of departure. Some pieces are full of silent spaces and quiet moods and occasionally use electronics as well.
Then there is the occasional standard. This album kicks off with an alto sax bass duet where Braxton and bassist Dave Holland play "You Stepped Out Of A Dream". Though the soloing is clearly informed by the players modernist tendencies, the tune is clearly straight ahead jazz (and a very nice way to open the recording).
