Vinylengine.com - can't log in.

I've had an account at vinylengine.com for at least 10 years. They recently moved to passwordless login where you enter your email address and they email you a temproary login code and I have logged in that way a few times, but today I'm getting an error "Sorry, but there was an error sending the email, SMTP Error: Could not authenticate." Is anyone else having this problem. There is a contact page for problems logging in but there is a message there "Please Note Due to work commitments, the contact form is closed until Sunday 13th September"

I've had that error a few times. It resolves itself without needing anything. Just log in again tomorrow and I bet it will be fine.

I've had this issue for about a week. Tried to log in again just now but got the same could not authenticate error.

OK, same for me- just tested. It'll be a minor technical error and we can just wait it out. Sit tight. No fire.

Ultimately, there's nothing "mission critical" about a few service manuals and brochures for ancient gear, is there? Good things come to those who wait.

The two sites are an incredible source of information that we've all contributed to, over the years. I'm thankful that in 2026 it isn't paywalled or subscription based, considering there are no requests, or ability to contribute to the ongoing maintenance of the platform.

Ditto, but........ there's something new brewing behind the scenes:

In theory, this might be a good sign.

The ad is small and unintrusive, though ironic...

No, service manuals and brochures are no big deal, but in the forums a couple of people responded to a question I asked, and I feel bad that a week has gone by without my being able to acknowledge and thank them for their replies.

Don't worry, your reply might not get posted anyway. I'm still waiting for my last post submitted 4 days ago to go public. This is the enshitification of the internet at work. The glory days are behind us.

I wish more of us would have your attitude. There are a lot of members here in AK who seem to think it's okay to not thank another member for helping them out.

The most recent example is in the speaker forum. I took the time to upload images and schematics several days ago and although the op has visited the site since then, he has yet to acknowledge my contribution to his thread

(...) Is anyone else having this problem. (...)

Yup, me too. But I've also noticed the info regarding JaS' work commeitments - so I'm pretty confident, that he'll fix the problem, when he's not quite as busy with his actual job anymore.

Greetings from Munich!

Initially I thought there was a problem with my gmail address. It has a (.) in it abc.xyz@gmail.com. Somewhere in the trouble shooting FAQ's on Ve it said that if you have a (.) in your gmail address to remove it. So I just wanted to know if anyone else is having problems, looks like there is.

There are always two sides to a story.

One side... While anybody can appreciate your help, you're clearly breaking the rules you agreed upon when registering to HFE/VE - no distribution/reposting or what ever you might call it; the docs are ment for personal use only. You follow rules at AK, so why can't you at HFE/VE?!

The other side... The libraries of those two sites are the work of members, who were contributing in hope it would benefit the public - no restrictions whatsoever. So...share while you can!

That said, HFE and VE are now accepting limited sponsorship (ads), as I already stated, which, hopefully, will take off some frustration and financial burden of JAS' shoulders and result in them sites getting what they were intended to be - libraries with free public acces.

So even taking a screen shot of a specific page in a manual that was downloaded from VE to answer someone's question on AK is a violation of VE rules?

I saw that one. Unfortunate, but hopefully he'll respond.

I had some issues recently when they first went to e-mail verification. Hit "forgot password" and set up two step verification. Signed back in and only need to deal with cloudfare captcha and I'm in.

That captcha is annoying. What are the cookies the site stores in my browser for and why can't they be used to whitelist my log-in request? I've even had to complete it before submitting a reply to a post, only to have the browser forget the text of my post after the captcha. Infuriating...

I don't learn, do I?!...quoting every post I'm responding to, because it might get edited, is a must, obviously.

You very well know that I wasn't talking about a screenshot.

To quote you:

"I wasn't trying to download anything for myself. I was contacted by another AK member to see if I could send him the full service manual from which I had posted a few screenshots from the Luxman PD444 service manual a few years ago. (see post #2 on this thread: ( https://audiokarma.org/forums/threads/luxman-pd-444-schematic-vinyl-engine.1105265/#post-18294410 ) I had posted the screen shots in response to another member's question on the Luxman PD444. I didn't save that SM since I don't own a PD444. Just trying to payback all the help I've received here on AK. At 77 years old with about 6 turntables and their SM's I don't plan on getting any more.

Since I have been 'grandfathered' access to both hifiengine and vinylengine service manuals I have downloaded and sent service manuals to more than one new AK members that can't get them.

I thought I could do a solid for this other AK member, but so far I have been unsuccessful at login to vinylengine. And I don't appreciate some of the condescending attitudes about being impatient. I wanted to give the member that requested the service manual an idea of whether or not I can acoomodate his request at some point. Thanks for the other replies."

BTW, it doesn't look like screenshots to me, but documents taken off of HFE. If I'm wrong, I apologize.

I have two Google accounts and e-mails. I can login to vinylengine only from the one with the same email as given to VE directly with the bookmark - no two step authentication forced on me. It also only works with the "native" IP adress it seems - at work I get the SMTP error notice, regardless of which Google account I'm using.
