VW brings the Bus back.

We recently rented a VW Routan minivan to bring the last of my father's effects from NC back up to New England. It was an extremely nice vehicle - comfortable, quiet, powerful and surprisingly economical on the 1000 mile trip. It had LED interior lighting, which made it look a little like a refrigerator inside when the doors were opened!

VW did kinda invent the genre, didn't they?

Man, I used to own 6 VW buses from the 60's. I honestly hate the new look.:puke: If I was the designer I would've opted for the original looking flatnose and a split windscreen and 24 windows with a rag rollback top. In red and white. With a big ass chrome emblem on front. I mean what is the point of bringing it back for nostalgia if looking at it doesn't make you think about your 60's bus?

That's the ugliest microbus I've ever seen.. sorry.. I can't like it..

My first ever vehicle was a 76 VW camper.. so I think you can understand why I don't like this..

crumple zones mandated by the .gov, "pedestrian safe" bumpers mandated by the .gov, Airbags mandated by the .gov, etc...

Thankfully it is at a concept car stage at this point, looks like somebody beat it with an ugly stick.

Call it what you want but that is not a bus! Minivan

I agree.. but wasn't your avatar basically a really early version of a mini van too? I mean if you really wanna get technical about it, and consider the size of a true panel van back then..

Back then it was very unique. That thing looks just like a million others on the road. I don't like the fact that they call it a bus.

Hippies rejoice?! not this one..........

I gotta pass on that one!

Here's a picture of bus!

Dude I want a Samba so bad I can taste it. But on the other hand, surviving a moderate traffic collision isn't such a bad thing either. The bus still has a huge following. The VW dealer in Huntington Beach had 4 Eurovans in front of the showroom just last week. It's amazing what clean Westies and Winabagos are going for these days, let alone Sambas.

Pete Townsend, a Bulli nut in his own right, has met with the president of VW to get a new bus in production. Don't hold your breath, as it will take a lot of units to make it doable. But if it happens, all Bulli lovers will owe a debt to Pete.

What a fugly rig that is. I am not a fan of the older buses, but at least they had something going for them. Even if it was a lack of everything people want in a rig. That is why they were cool.

I hate the fact that they tout the entertainment system being run by an Ipad. Do I have to buy an Ipad to listen to the radio? That is the exact opposite of the original bus.
