Wanna see a Wooden Grado Laboratory arm on a Lenco L75 (nerds only)

I struggled for two years to put an "affordable" tonearm on an armless Lenco I bought locally. Oh foolish young audiophile who buys a table without an arm! The market is fierce (and expensive). AND It turned out only a few arms work on the stubbly Lenco. And the were all difficult to find or over $300. I don't have that kind of loot to drop on a tonearm! But for the lucky Lenco owner (what a table) who is also light of pocket, here is an arm that not only fits, but happily turned out to be a beautiful aesthetic match for the might Lenco L75: the vintage wooden Grado Laboratory Tonearm in "gunstock walnut" -- which turned out to be a great match for the original Swiss plinth. Anyway, my (happy) turntable p*rn shot of the day! Phew, two years in the making. Excuse our dust! (on the photos!)

One of those arms has been on my 'want' list for a while. My Thorens TD-124 was originally sold with one (according to the 1961 sales receipt) and the Thorens came to me with an armboard with the right cut-outs. The seller had sold the arm separately, and I missed my chance to get that too.

What cart are you using?

Apparently this arm will deal with most modern carts. I will try out a Stanton 681eee first and then I have a nice Shure Tracer on it! The old Denon 103 is supposed to be excellent as well, but I don't have one of those laying around!

I find it hard to understand how it can be compatible with both a low compliance DL-103 and modern (high compliance) carts.

modern "hi compliance carts" are in the 20cu range. 70's high compliance were in the 35-50cu range. Modern carts would probably struggle more in the arm than a 103. Although I would suspect carts in the 1.8gr min vtf, and up to perform in the arm

I'd like to hear the rest of the story. Where'd you find it? And please, please, if it was at a yard sale, or worse, the curbside, make up another story.

edit:
Lo, and behold! There's one on the big auction site right now. Not quite the same. If anyone knows the differences?

As marc stated it will do OK in the 1.7 up to 2 gram range, but excels above that due to the spring loaded vtf. And the arm may not have all the extra weights it came with, which makes set up slightly more of a pain. I have the arm on my rok and it was not doing so great with under 1.7 vtf carts. My denon dl300 is good on it with a penny on the head shell area of the arm which was needed to level float the arm. Then I attached the screw back to adjust vtf. The arms black rubber arm piece is used for vta and the arm needs to be adjusted twice for vtf. Once on the outer and once on the inner platter to be consistant. That's where the ring comes into play as well. But once dialed in it seems to be a very nice arm.

Nothing spring loaded about a unipivot Grado arm. It's all adjusted with weights.

Check your sources, I have the arm on my table. It's right in front of the post the arm sits on to rotate. It's even in the guide on vinylengine. As well in the 1st photo of the OP's pictures.
