Warning - Cleaning Technics SL-1300/1400 & 1500Mk2 front panel with IPA

It's a very common problem for the push buttons on these series of tables to develop sticking with age. I was overly aggressive in cleaning out the brass bushings with IPA to remove the decades of sticky junk which would not allow the push buttons to move freely. The excess IPA got on the inside of the panel and damaged the areas around the 33/45 rpm labels and also the Start/End.

The title of your post led me to believe that this was going to be about a story of the nightmares of spilling a beer on your turntable! Clearly not, and a different type of alcohol all together….

Sorry about your predicament! I hope that you find a satisfactory remedy for the mishap. Perhaps the other type of IPA would take the edge off!?! Good luck on your remediation efforts…

Found a panel on eBay for a SL-1500Mk2 which looks much better even though it is not the right model number.
 
I did something similar to my SL-150 MKII. The acrylic (I think that's what it is) actually shattered and broke. I found one from the 1500 which was a great substitute.

So what should be used, deoxit, vinegar, or the universal solvent?
 
Using Alcohol/IPA on plastic or paint is always a crap shoot.

I tried to use some High proof alcohol on my VPI HW16 record cleaner to get off some of the protective film's glue.

The entire top "Crazed"-cracked and now looks like it's glass that was shot with a 306 bullet! :(

Another time I used some Windex to clean the Bezel of a TV and it took the paint clean off.
