Weekly Estate and Garage sale finds (pics)

I went to an estate sale run by an auction company of Friday. I have found stuff there before. This time my audio find was a JVC VL-5 with an Audio Technica AT12S cartridge (the S is for the shibata stylus )auto lift, belt drive turntable for $22. Cleaned it up and tried to get check it out but the cueing lever would not drop the arm on to the LP. Checked Vinylengine and discovered the main cam wheel which controls the cueing lever and auto lift was misaligned, corrected that and it works a charm. Also picked up a Ducks Unlimited framed cloisonné pin set of duck stamps from 1934-1999 for $18.

I agree with you Lazarus Long. And, IMO if you want to ask top dollar, at least clean the 40 years of dust off of it. LOL These people, and they were a professional estate sale company from Chicago, didn't clean anything, didn't price half of the items, and were overpriced on about 90% of the items.
My wife and I go to quite a few estate sales here in the Chicago area, and maybe two companies actually clean stuff, and a handful price everything.

Gotta say, that is one great score!! Good for you!

Probably just me. But I've being looking for the AKAI 7" metal reel for along time. Yes, I know it is easy to find one EBay but I am not paying 40-50. This weekend, I bought a lot of reel tapes and to my surprise ! Here is one, clearly escaped the flippers eyes

And with my old boy. Now a true PAIR:

Spool the tape over to the fancy reel, so there's more contrast with the fancy cutouts! And where did you get those cool reel stands?

No pix yet, but I scored a Dual 1257 with the Ortofon ULM cartridge, all three spindles, and a clean dust cover.

I also got a Sonance Sonamp 1250, which is a 50w x 12 channel amp (can be bridged to 100w x 6). Nice cosmetic condition, but rode hard and put away wet, so it has rusty screws and (at this point) doesn't power up, but it's massive.

Yes. Spool the tape would have a better look. As for the stands, it came over the years form different estate sales. Usually no one wants it. They took the Deck, They took the tape, but they left the stands.

Shipping on the tweeter they need will be more than I paid, and the grill frames appear to be intact, including the circular ring to hold the lower cloth in a circle.

I just dug up this old post for curiosity sake and realized I never admitted to how much I paid for these. Sometimes I omit that info if I intend to flip them or am embarrassed at what a steal they were. When I stumbled across these I was trolling a neighborhood that was doing an event where many residents were all having a garage sale (at their respective houses) on the same day. These were just sitting beside other stuff inconspicuously in a guys driveway. At that point I had no idea who ADS was exactly so I did a search for them here and knew right away they were good. And I got them for $40!

They are not going anywhere any time soon. They took over mains duty in my living room which is kind of a secondary location since it isn't my primary listening or surround sound room. It is used for casual listening though and is running off an AVR with a pair of smaller ADS for centers and some minimus 7's hiding in the back for surrounds. I just watched Rogue One in there which is probably the first time I've really sat and listened to some serious DTS on that system. It sounded awesome!

Scored some ADS L710's today. I was not familiar with them at all but I could tell right away they weren't crap. Did a quick search while standing there and found several threads and knew they were worth snagging:

I paid half that for mine. Sadly they were the cloth version. I have a very special needs son who is prone to pushing in domes, so I flipped them. If I ever find a pair with the metal grill they aren't going anywhere.

Was at one of the local auction houses last weekend. I won the Star Trek book City on the Edge of Forever, signed by the author - Harlan Ellison and also signed, with notes, by Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. There were a couple of guys at the auction who said they weren't leaving without it, guess they did. Not sure of the value but paid $115 for it. Going to hang onto this one.

I was wondering what happened to this thread. Surely there have been some estate sales since the beginning of January.

Hey, I was looking for this thread too!!! Here are some media/publication scores I hit recently at the same estate sale I purchased the vintage BMX and Macintosh stuff. This is a sample. I took in about 14 Dungeon Modules - all were super clean - never played or written in. Always fun hunting...

Was on my way to pick up some pizzas for my son's birthday. Stabiline Voltage Regulator Conditioner 1 Ph. 115V @ 17.4 Amps SVRS88102CU for a 20 spot. No idea what to do with it. Guy had it hooked up to his guitar amps

Typically, there is a bit of money left after Christmas, and then the bills come in. Things are normally pretty slow until income tax returns come in around here.

I wouldn't recommend putting on a sale at this time of year if it can be avoided. Sales are always slower and lower, unless it is something really special.
