Weird midrange panels on these RS 2.5's! What's the deal here?

yeah, see how much narrower they (monsoon planars) look? I've got a pair round here somewhere and they look like yours, not the ones in the infinity.
BG maybe? Also, if those 'were' monsoons, they are 90 degrees from where they should be, so dispersion is less then optimal.

What are the 4 brassy round things below the "EMITs"? Speaker connections, well those ain't right if they are.
Aftermarket tweeters and mids maybe.
Looks kind of like something the "Dr." in TN would build.

yeah, that's the 100,000 question.
Maybe they sound great. I am a huge fan of monsoon's drivers, if those are monsoon, which I'm not convinced, and if that Emit array is donecorrectly, it just lowers the load on each tweeter.

The very first pair I had, I did that vertically with the monsoon drivers, 2 per speaker and think it was the MM-1200 not even close to what the emims sound like. Assuming the crossovers haven’t been modified.
That looks pretty radical. If there ever was a case for an A-B comparison, I’d love to hear them.

Man looking at these that’s pretty radical, whoever did that looks like they were pretty meticulous in they’re thought process. You have the 4 what looks like toggle switches too. I wonder what they control, the emits or the neo’s.

The original controls were hidden from view by the grille frame so they may have been replaced. Can't tell in the picture posted above.
Plus, I like your toggle switch idea better than my speaker terminal idea.
That's a stupid place to put speaker wire terminals now that I think about it. LOL

A friend just scored these RS 2.5's. Is this some kind of prototype? The EMITs look unusual too. The mids look a little like a sideways version of the prototype EMIMs from the QRS, or Monsoon planars...
Does anyone know anything about these speakers?
Someone replaced the Emims with Monsoon Neo planar speakers. There were several generations of these Monsoon panels. I believe it was the 2nd generation of panels, that had an impedance of around 3.2 Ohms. So, they were electrically, a drop-in replacement, even though they were physically larger than the Emims. The Monsoon drivers were very good, and were used by several other aftermarket speaker companies. The most famous designs were from VMPS. Brian Cheney was a big fan of this driver, and had at least 9 different models with this midrange.
AK member, Michael Alan Marks (magicmarksy) often mods Infinity speakers with the Monsoon mid. He often uses Quantum Emits too. Maybe this was one of his creations?

It's 4 Monsoon mid panels mounted horizontally. There was an old thread here, were a member thought about trying Monsoon mids in his 2.5's. Maybe these are those speakers? I guess I need to search for the original discussion?

magicmarsky usually removes passive crossovers in his designs. He likes to use external electronic crossovers. Maybe the brass screws were used to mount binding posts on back for the Emit and Emim connections?
