Now she is a 'Souped-Up by Avionic' C-4 :D Thanks, Dave :thmbsp:

I'm not sure why Yamaha designed it the way they did, signal jumping between 3-4 pcb boards, but it sounds wonderful.

Played the Tuner for 30mins just to warm-up the C-4. From memory: Highs & lows were immediately recognized as better (tighter & more pronounced) than before. When the C-4 is in your system it is the King Honcho, it takes control of the system without a doubt.

Moving on to 24/96 DVD-As :thmbsp:

Makes me want to go through my C-50 and M-50. Sadly, they sit unused on the shelf. For now~~~

It sounded excellent with the CA Azur 740C 24/384 and my MOSFET amp with NS-1000's.

Congrats on your c4. Mine is at my tech's right now looking for a new selector switch. It's my 2nd c4 and this one isn't leaving.

I had a C-4 here that required-removal/diassembly to get theat switch thoroughly cleaned. What'd the tech say was wrong with your switch?

Digital music, CD, DVD-A & Flac, were BIG sounding. Bigger than before and bigger than with the MC-7R as the pre-amp. The soundstage is huge yet not broken apart.

It was getting late when I tried the MC phono and the adult beverages were taking control  but I was pleasantly surprised. More later...

I just found this 3yr old (Oct 08, 2008) review of a stock C-4

As for the sound it's mesmerizing it will bring out the magic of vinyl like I have not heard well in a long long time. The C-4 throws a huge and warm soundstage where the music is more involving more than anything I have ever experienced.

It drives my amps like I did not know they could be driven with complete control and total authority the C-4 is the boss of my amps not the other way around.

This unit is particularly useful if you have powered subs because it has selectable dual amp pre-outs nice!

Oh and it is a darn good looking unit with its old school looks your eyes will be drawn to it as much as your ears are drawn to the oh so sweet stereo sound.

CDs will sound almost analog (use the AUX input) and if you have an outbound tuner it too will sound fantastic.

Amazingly it was as if the above reviewer was in my listening room last night.

Amazing what Nichicon ES ,KZ and FG's will do..How do you like the LED's?

Anything else ya wanna share?

Cheers,

Bob

Oh yeah almost forgot. The magic pixy dust spinkles.:D.

Deox-it !! Reflowed solder in Key "hot" spots. Nichicon PW's in the relay driver circuit. It gets plenty warm there.Clean circuit boards of all old crusty solder flux.Removed dried up cap glue. The usual stuff.

Just that it's bad and needs replacement. I trust him on this call as he's an excellent tech. The unit played fine in mono. When the stereo button was pressed one side would go out and when the reverse switch was pressed the opposite side would go silent.
