Wharfedale Denton vs. Elac B6

I think tonight on the Elacs will be the new Beatles remix 1+ CD. If you have not heard that, it is truly mind-blowing! Well worth the price of admission....

Where are you planning to place them, if not upon stands. Most monitors sound much better on stands, especially rear-ported monitors.
 
I'll be placing them on an open shelf in my bedroom about 8 inches from the wall . It's where I have my Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 , no problems with boomy bass like I had with the Elacs .
 
I have my Elacs on stands about 13" from the back wall and 24" from side walls...bass sounds natural, smooth, and full for me. Honestly, I'm very happy w the bass level and overall sound of these so far. They certainly do get loud...most of my listening has been done with the knob on 2/3 (those pesky ears again..gotta be careful). I have noticed the slight vocal boost mentioned in some reviews... so far so good...
 
I will be quite curious how you compare the highs of the Dentons to those of the B6, esp since I originally ordered the Dentons myself. They have been reviewed as quite warm/dark themselves.... I also am curious what the bass in the Wharfedale 220s and 225s will sound like. Having the port under the speaker seems kind've cool and looks cool too...

What about height from the floor? Will the tweeters be at the same height as your ears in your normal listening position?

Placing close to the back walls affects more than boomy bass, it can affect imaging/soundstage too. Some speakers are okay with close wall placement and were designed for that. I've never placed a speaker within 18" of the back wall, in its final position.
 
I usually sit on a chair in my bedroom to listen to music which puts the tweeters right at ear level . Sound stage and imaging are good . I'm sure it could be better if my bedroom was bigger but I'm pretty happy with the results I get . I also have my tv speakers mounted to the wall on pinpoint wall mounts with the speakers ( Jbl Loft 40) pointing down towards the bed . Those seem to disappear when listening to tv audio with the dialog centered on the screen but the background effects project to the left and right of the screen depending on what's going on in the background .
 
I am really loving the B6's. They sound terrific. Nice, full sound that is comfortable to my ears despite being accurate and detailed. The sound staging is quite nice as well. I really hear depth and placement of instruments in the sound field. I am very happy w them and plan t keep them as my main stereo speakers. No sub needed. ; 9 ]
 
I'm glad you're enjoying your Elacs , I'm still waiting for my Dentons which should be here the second week of March . I'm enjoying my Diamond 10.1s in the meantime.
 
Considering that they were originally priced at $1000, they certainly should be nice speakers. Do you still have your Elacs? Would love to see a comparison esp. of the upper range....
 
I still have the Elacs . I did a comparison between the Elacs vs Cerwin Vega V6f vs JBL Es 30s . The Cerwins are a small tower speaker with a 6 1/2 inch woofer and 1 inch silk dome tweeter . The Jbls are slightly taller than the Elacs with a 6 inch woofer, tweeter and super tweeter . I used my Audiosource amp100 and my IPod as a source . I played Cal Tjader ,Cuban Fantasy . The Elacs went first ...they sounded ok at the bottom end but dull in the high frequencies. The Jbls sounded good throughout but bass was a bit lacking . The Cerwins ,to my amazement , sounded the best. Music was full and lively . Next I played Spanish Harlem Orchestra , Perla Morena , Same outcome . I even switched to my Yamaha RX A720 in pure direct . Same outcome . I tried all different genres .Even when the Elacs sounded great ,the Cerwins were better . I know hearing is subjective so this means nothing to someone else or maybe I just expected the Elacs to blow everything else away . Either way the Elacs don't do it for me . By the way , the way I set the speakers up wasn't ideal in anyway except that I had the Elacs set on top of the Cerwins ( Cerwins are 32 inches tall). I was going to compare the Wharfedale Diamonds 10.1 but I just got into the music and got myself a beer instead .

You certainly have a nice selection of speakers! and you are adding the Dentons to the list...wow. I am a beginning entry level guy...at least in terms of hi-fi...of course I've been a music fan for most of my 47 years and that includes having been a drummer and experimental electronic musician.... I agree that terms such as "good' or "better" are always subjective when discussing music, art, sounds ..etc. The key is to find something that you like that brings the magic of music to you. I mentioned in another thread that the Sony Core SS3SC speakers sounded absolutely mindbogglingly great to my ears...super extended on the top...I was hearing all sorts of stuff in the music that I had never heard before and enjoying them...but, I could tell that my overly sensitive ears were going to struggle dealing with that level of clarity and detail. So, I went to plan B, which was originally the Dentons (due to their description/looks/reviews) but somewhere along the way I went back and took a look at the Elacs and after seeing reviews that described them as voiced in the same family as the Pioneer BS22's, I took a chance.... so far, I am glad that I did. As much as I wish that I could push the boundaries more for a greater detailed sounding speaker, I know that I can't hang w the big dogs. Anyway...very cool how many speakers you have to compare/contrast. Keep them coming to help us newbies out here!

I think a fair description of the B6's is that they sound like the Pioneer BS22's with 30% more bass extension, 15% more detail on the top, and a wider sound stage and more full bodied sound. I can't imagine any Pioneer BS22 owner not digging them....but you never know... ;-) They are a step up for sure...not a huge one, but definitely a step up....
 
Dang, bass on the B6's is kicking some serious tail today...listened to them all night long last night and they really seem to have opened up and come into their own. I did have the bass turned up a few notches on my A20 (to accommodate the BS22's)...may need to turn it back down now. Wow! Honestly, sounds like there is a sub there is so much bass. It sounds great, but I've listened to a teenie bookshelf (BS22) w very little bass for over three years, so I probably am not quite used to this much. Cool.
 
Glad you're enjoying your B6's. Similar paths...I've have the BS22's and recently got a pair of the Elac B5's.

Curious, in just the midrange freq.'s, do you prefer the 22's or 6's for things like female vocals?
