What a Shock: 23-year old Michael Phelps Likes to Party...

Most of you know by now that Micheal Phelps got caught smoking the dreaded weed - caught in a photo by some opportunistic college kid. And Mike - yet another shock - says he's sorry. Not sorry, sports fans, that he toked - sorry that he got caught.

It turns out Michael is (other than his fame, riches, and world-class athletic status) a quite typical 23-year old kid. He likes to drink, he smokes pot (how often? Probably not much while he's training...) and yes, he's straight, he likes to have sex with women (having enlisted the services of a prostitute in Vegas). Go Mike.

And of course everyone's getting all shook up about this, especially in America. In many other parts of the world, not so much so.

But the thing that strikes me is that the photographer is far less intelligent than Michael Phelps. Apparently he sold the valuable photo for $10K to a British tabloid. Not bad, but I'm guessing Michael may have ponied up a bit more.

I could care less about this or any other celebrity crapola.

Other folk's lives are their business unless it directly affects mine, and our country's obsession with this crap is insane. Folks need to get a life, not live someone else's....

BTW, this isn't directed at the OP, but at the situation overall.

Yeah, so what?

I'm sure there will be a lot of outrage here in the U.S. and nowhere else. Most other societies have figured out (Long, long ago.) that a little partying every now and then,
and yes, that includes weed and loose women, is no big deal. It's actually quite normal
for the sub-thirty crowd. It only becomes a problem when they loose control, or get behind the wheel. And BTW, it has ALWAYS been this way. There has NEVER been a time when twenty somethings didn't drink and screw. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not dealing with reality.

This reminds me of something Kid Rock once said, " I'm young, I'm rich, and I'm famous.
I'm a rock star. There would be something wrong if I WASN'T partying my ass off."
Now, that's honesty I can repsect.

Yes, you're absolutely right. I would have gotten a whole lot more than $10,000.
What an idiot that photographer is.

Hey! I just realized that you and I are in agreement on something, Rick!

Awesome!

Isn't there a 4 year ban from Olympic competition for any athlete caught using / having illlegal drugs? Hmmmm...wonder if he'll be penalized for his behavior and have to sit out 2012? :scratch2:

Ditto!

Us Bongs used to be my fine choice for a bong. Yeah he is out the next olympics for sure!

But I think that would be Blackmail, and a criminal offense I believe! But I do agree he should have shopped it around at least.

Jim

How many medals has he won at this point?

Hey we have all seen the commercials....you CAN'T be a hit when you are high, oh wait never mind.

I don't see why anyone should be up in arms about it...everyone older than 23 was 23 once, and those younger than 23 shouldn't be surprised, as they probably do things that are far more crazy (if my high school peers are any indication).

Yeah, been there done that, wish my body could handle it all over again. At least he wasn't on acid laying at the edge of an active runway watching the pretty planes land. (Not me, but some fellows I knew back in the day) Worst darned part of it was the photographer in the crowd took his camera and sold the shots of the Delta planes' undercarriage at landing to Delta for ads. So here's to you Michael Phelps, one toke over the line:beerchug:

Oh he'll be in the next Olympics allright. Two of his major sponsors have already said they're looking the other way.

Of greater interest will be whether he can equal (or better) his recent feats.

I, for one, am glad to see that he lives a somewhat normal life outside of the olympics. Could be worse, he could be a purpose built machine that knows nothing outside of a swimming pool.
