What are the best sounding cerwin-vegas?

vegabass25

Awesome AK member.
Hey guys, I was wondering what some peoples opinions on the best sounding cv's are. I recently bought a pair of cv 280se's for $280 made in 1997 and they sound great along with my HED's. So what are your faves? AT's RE's VS's......

BTW, If your just gonna say "all cv's suck" or stuff like that, keep your comments to yourself.

I owned AT-10, and heard AT-12, D5(or maybe D3), and D9. The D9 literally could cave walls in and didn't sound half bad doin it neither!

Which Vegas?

Surprised to find me in here?

I've listened to AT-15s, AT-12s, D-9s, D-7s, VS-150s, E-715s, E-712s, LS-15s, V-15Fs, V-12Fs, and 380SEs.

I would say that the bass seems pretty consistent with most models, but the impact of the highs seems better and more clear with the AT-15s. Even moreso than the AT-12s, as the tweeter is different. My vote goes for the AT series. D series might be next, it's been too long since I've heard them.

Inventory?

What model(s) do you own at present?

217R from the 70's. 15' with 2 mids and a huge horn firing out the back. Seperate adjustment pots for the mids and horn.

No power?

Well, I guess if there's no available power, that makes sense.

You could power Vegas with a potato, so power shouldn't be an issue. :nono:

I prefer speakers that can play faithfully above 115 dB, which is why I chose the speakers I chose.

I have heard the AT 12 and the AT 15 side by side from the same unit driving them, the 15's by far where better. Bought them. Sold them many moons ago. Now have a set of 380 SE's from memory, I like the AT 15's better, that was long ago and I don't think my room is very acoustic so can't say for sure. The 380's have a stiffer rubber suround around the base speakers, they don't rot and the base is sharper, though that might not be a good thing since anything base is usually fairly loose sounding. I believe they have a horn tweeter too. The highs are HIGH!! Then again, could be the room.

380SEs

Too bad you're not interested in selling those 380SEs, and too bad we live so far apart. I'd want to buy them. I've been looking for a pair for a while now. The sound is very different, which is why I want a pair. Yummy! :thmbsp:

howdy fellas:) I gotta put my 2Cents worth in too! I have at present E-312's, D-9's bought new in 1999 & 1987. The E-312's are still in their original boxes as I bought them. I intended to use them for main front speaks in my sound system but I used a pair I already had, so down in the basement they went unforgotten for 9 years until I recently moved. They still havent seen the light of day. The D-9's I used for parties and weddings, and beleive it or not, one funeral:( My vote goes to the D-9's BUT that's only because I did some special tweaks to them after they blew the tweets one time, got new ones from CV as they were still new enough to get parts. Also I have E-715's and they are darn close to the D-9's but just not enough to make me want them instead:)

What? Not one mention of the CLS-215?

You mean the 1215s? I can't comment on them because I've never heard them. I do know that all the drivers except the rear-firing tweeter (on the MKII) are AT series drivers.

I'm wondering how some of their new stuff would sound...? CLS215

Very horny sound, no doubt. :scratch2:

I love my mint HED's. I would like to score a mint set of D-9's though.
I really want a set of JBL L-222's...yeah, I'm a traitor.

With the possible exception of the tweeter, I don't think those JBLs would stand a chance next to a pair of 15" Cerwin Vegas. The look cool, though. :thmbsp:

NEWER cerwins are awsome too!

What? Not one mention of the CLS-215?
