What Are These?

usedto

Just saw a listing for these - a few days old, so they may be gone. The description says they really POUND, and there are dates of 1963 and 1969 somewhere on them, but no other info. The look interesting, but I have no idea what they are.

Any help?

Those look significantly different than the W90s I've seen, but the general driver configuration matches. These are likely newer W90s than most switching the purple pseudo-domes from the original paper cone tweeters.

Kelly (kfa888) is very fond of his. I've had a chance to listen to them and found them to be very non-fatiguing and pleasant for background listening. They were a bit muddy and limited in either frequency extreme, but better than many.

Yep, look like a variation of the Wharfedale W90's They are for sure Wharfedale. My W90's have the paper cone "Super 3" tweeter where these have what appears to be the same purple done tweeter found in the W60's. interesting. BTW my W90's have the two dissimilar woofers like that only one is front ported and one is slot ported out the back. I love the bass reproduction on mine. I would snap those up if they are reasonable. W90's have been bringing 3-4 hundred on Epray.

There were obviously variations as this one has two front ported woofer setup. The tweeter and mid array are just like mine though.

here is the back of mine showing the rear slots on one woofer. And yes, i love mine.

Larry, I haven't heard any of these older Wharfedale's but I would buy them on looks alone. :smoke:

I have a pair of (MUCH) more modern E50's and love them. :music: :thmbsp:

Good Luck!

If you guys want a generalization of the Wharfedale sound they are warm and remind me a lot of a good vintage KLH or maybe some of the AR's.

I think they might be EMI's but those are later Wharfedale tweeters.
But that is definitely a Wharfedale woofer, as I have a pair of W20D's, that are 1960's vintage, and they have the green ring around woofers and the purple tweeters, just like those big' uns.
