what are you doing when you listen to music ?

Here's a question for the masses. What do you usually find yourself doing when you listen to your systems.

Are you alone in the living room, Studio Room, reading, searching the internet, sipping Martini's with your beautiful mate, reading a book or Newspaper or just taking a nap.

I have my system in the Living room and its an effort to stop in the middle of the day or anytime, to take the proper amount of time to just sit and listen like I would love to do. So its stolen moments while I read the Paper.

How bout you ?

I'd say "anything and everything" as well. No headphones unless traveling, but plenty of speakers indoors and out.

If I'm fiddling on the computer there is always a stream going, too. :)

Either laptop or book in hand usually!
Regards,
Jim

When I 'm listening to music, I am usually..... listening to music.

Just kidding. Sometimes surfing the net, stopping here at AK, and on to Audiogon. 99% of the time I listen alone since there is only one seat in my 2-channel room. A convenient way to unwind alone.

Depends on which system but I can be doing most anything...usually just listening if it's late at night. Love those late night listening sessions...either alone or with my wife.

Well,

Statistically speaking, I listen mostly in my car, so that does not really count.
Next in line will be my office system - so the answer will be...working :tears:

I'm usually using my laptop or playing games while I'm listening to music. Sometimes I read a book while listening, but I'm nearly always doing something. My room isn't set up good enough to want to listen to music by itself at the moment.

I have two modes of listening, casual listening, and serious listening. Let me say this first. The stereo system is turned on in the morning as I pass by it on my way to make coffee. It remains on until I go to bed, usually 1:30 to 2:00 AM. I will go in and out of casual mode listening and serious mode listening several times in a day.

Casual listening is when music is playing at a comfortable level while I do tasks about the house, or in my office. I am listening to Bob James - Morning, Noon, & Night CD right now, while I use the computer in my office. Sometimes, when a particular track comes on that I am fond of, I will walk to the living room, crank up the volume, and sit down for the duration of that tune. When the track is over, unless I'm caught by the next track, I will turn it down some, and go back to what I was doing.

Serious listening is when I sit down in my favorite sweet spot, select specific CD's I want to hear, bring the volume up to a realistic level, and simply sit, relax and enjoy the music. I often daydream while looking out big windows through the woods that surround my home. It is very peaceful, and immensely soothing to my soul. I have no worries about disturbing neighbors, since my home is situated in the middle of 17 acres, with woods all around me. I can't even see any neighbors, which is just how I like it, so whatever volume level I consider appropriate presents no problems, even for late night listening. Late night listening is my favorite time. All internal walls in my home are insulated with dense rock wool insulation, so sound transmission remains low, and relatively quiet from room to room. The fience is long gone asleep. There are no extraneous noises to disturb me in the late hours, and no idle chatter to tolerate or accommodate, as the case might be. These peaceful times are mine alone, and I love every minute of them. Midnight, McIntosh, and me. It doesn't get any better than that. :)

Sitting in front of the computer with a drink on the desk or for more serious listening sitting on my couch with a drink in hand. There seems to be a pattern here:beer::D

.............R1:music::yes:

While listening I can be found driving, running, doing yardwork, spacing out just listening, enjoying a drink with friends, AKing, having sex...

:D

I'm usually up in my bedroom listening to music.....most of the time, surrounded by fellow music lovers.....my pets.

What I am doing when listening to music

It is usually late at night, weekend and kicking back some beers and cranking the Klipsh,Tull and Zep have saved me thousands in therapy bills, brings back memories of good times in the past and hopes for the future, also always have something cranking when I am driving, probably has cancelled out otherwise road rage issues,Mass. drivers are some of the worst!

My rig is in the workshop, so usually listening and working on a recap or troubleshoot session, at least until the Blackvelvet takes ahold then the work stops and the volume goes up for some reason.
