Jean-Luc Ponty ~ Individual Choice

West German Target.

The last of yesterday's thrift store finds. Not necessarily a big fan of Mr. Ponty, but I can't resist these early pressings when the price is right.View attachment 3832304
$15-20 requires a lot of thought
For .25 - .50 cents US I'll try almost any recording
have found a few gems this way, especially collections where there is a bunch of stuff I like
Hard to argue with 400 Cds for $100 etc good condition lots of good known stuff

33 years of Beth Orton.
I've gotten old.

I'm like this with some artists too.I remember a few years ago i was wondering when my favorite modern Jazz trumpeter Jim Rotondi was going to put out a new CD.Then i found out he'd unexpectedly passed away.We we're almost the same exact age 08/62.My son and i met him after a set with his band One For All in 2007 and he was just as nice to us as could be.A real class guy.
It really messed me up for a minute i'll tell you.

not on this one. but i do alot of that to other, more worthy gear.

funny that recently, i flattened the jvc ax66 phono response like ruler flat using my ebay 'motronix' iriaa board...i just built my own iriaa board and handmatched precision parts and remeasured the jvc...it's got humps where i compensated the phono stage for defects in the ebay board

when i plotted the ebay board, it LOOKED good but i never compared exact dB with the standard. it's off a bit. not bad. might not be able to hear the difference but i could see it.

i'll get back into that unit before long and post plots and stuff when i readjust it.

i got burnt on repairs and restos. i been doing more mods lately...and playing. tinkering. just having fun.

I want one

Rat Cars Modified — The Rat Rod Movement Explained

Rat cars, or rat rods, are a subculture of custom vehicles that reject polished perfection in favor of a raw, unfinished look. They are built to be driven, not just displayed, and often feature rust, exposed welds, salvaged parts, and mismatched components xerodrive.comxerodrive.com+1.

Origins and Philosophy

The rat rod style emerged from the hot rod culture of the 1940s–1950s, when working-class builders modified old, inexpensive cars for speed and personal expression. Over time, a branch developed that valued imperfection over polish — visible patches, dents, and patina were seen as part of the story xerodrive.comxerodrive.com+1. Influences include biker, greaser, rockabilly, psychobilly, and punk subcultures, which also embraced rugged, individualistic style WikipediaWikipedia.

Key Characteristics

  • Patina is sacred: No full repaint; rust is preserved or stabilized notenoughcylinders.comnotenoughcylinders.com.
  • Mechanical priority: The engine, suspension, and brakes are the focus; the body can be “left as is” notenoughcylinders.comnotenoughcylinders.com.
  • Originality over uniformity: No two rat rods are the same; each reflects the builder’s personality xerodrive.comxerodrive.com.
  • Functional over decorative: Built to run, often with loud, high-performance engines ThrottleXtremeThrottleXtreme.
  • Creative reuse: Parts from scrap yards, farm auctions, or even non-automotive items (e.g., a rifle as a gear shifter) are common WikipediaWikipedia.
Rat rods are counter-culture statements — a rejection of showroom-quality builds. They celebrate improvisation, humor, and mechanical honesty, often appearing in street scenes, rallies, and meetups xerodrive.comxerodrive.com+1. Some are “sleeper cars,” looking stock but hiding powerful modifications notenoughcylinders.comnotenoughcylinders.com.
