What are you Listening To Right Now? - and more

Yea there is a reason I have 4 of them…. One the of few SS amps that have similar qualities to the sound stage of a tube amp.

Some folks are quick to jump on the fact that they used STK chips…. So did Pioneer, in their SX-80 series…. Guess those are all **** too…

That said Optinica utilized massive sealed power transformer, they are also 70s units not 80s so they are early STKs.

Every time I go back to this amp it just blows my mind.

I have preached optonica to folks on AK for well over a decade now. A number of folks have picked up the slimline and they always say the same thing.

How does it seem to have never ending power, the 2nd thing folks comment on is the phono stage.

I’m dying for someone to buy the one on eBay, it’s dirt cheap and shipping is free.

Someone needs to snag this…

This is today if you're within striking distance of Central Mass.
The Frankenfest used to be across the tracks from me in Clinton.
Frank used to host it at his woodshop in a converted mill.
Since Frank passed it's now about 8 miles south of me. The old stone church I pass on the way usually flies old glory.

I sold my Marantz 2275 for $450 sight unseen to my new best friend Mike (Raz) before shoving off to The Frankenfest today.
It's a good deal for both of us. Then I lugged a bunch of Classical box sets & a little woodworking to the fest.
I missed pizza time but I had a few awesome homemade chocolate chip cookies (thx @John in MA ) and saw/heard a buncha cool schitt.

Holy cow...that is an amazing price..I really need to pull mine out and give the Sony a bit of a rest.

It's the 80's and 90's you speak of which is the "crap period" I'm thinking of... also microphone placement is a long lost art among most engineers today... the small audiophile labels are notable exceptions... :)
Microphone placement and type was paramount in the early pre 70s recording process when the recording engineer was probably recording to 2 tracks maybe 4 for the original recording. The original recordings would be mixed down to a stereo or mono mix to make final Master Tapes. Small Audiophile labels have to rely on the audio quality of "Master" tapes/files they're allowed to use for mixing their releases.
