What are you Listening To Right Now? - and more

I tried to drive to drive to a less-used local trailhead used for access to a pair of alpine lakes, and the Truchas Peaks, on Friday. What I did not know is that crews were actively grading the road on that day. A grader was working about five miles in, leaving a ~10" high rib of soft dirt and small rocks on the return-side of the road, with occasional watermelon-sized rocks.

There was enough room to keep going on the un-graded side, so we did, but quickly encountered second, similar rib of dirt and rocks that split the remaining part of the road. I turned around immediately, not wanting to chance getting trapped until the crew finished their work on that section of road. The juice was totally not worth the squeeze.

Oh well, the road needed maintenance. I drove up in my former Mazda last year around this time, and it was a truly stressful experience. The vehicle took no damage, and didn't get stuck, but easily could have been subjected to both. The 4Runner made the same obstacles fun, until I called it.

Smart move. I’ve miss judged dirt trails when I was young on dirt bikes. Slowing down or retreating would have definitely been the smart move

We could have pushed most of the problem rocks out of the way, but several of the remaining ones appeared legitimately too heavy to move, and not worth the effort to try, or deal with the potential consequences.

Whenever something like this happens, I remind myself that (insert objective here) will still be there in the future.

Have you ever seen a Unimog in action. An office neighbor owned one and I was amazed at what that thing could do.

Not only that but we don’t want the new truck messed up from a rock kicked up from a tire. Not likely but you never know
