As I sit here writing this it’s nearing 1:00 in the morning. Aside from a minor bit tinnitus (a somewhat common theme among those of us who are of a certain age it seems) I’m listening to the silence that is occasionally interrupted by the sound of a distant car or sport bike winding out through the gears — sometimes followed by fading sirens as is the case tonight. (Though I’m not the biggest Springsteen fan, at times like this my thoughts sometimes turn to his music.)
While trying to decide what I might want to listen to I note the sound of air being forced through the vents as the heater has kicked on. During the daytime I likely would not have noticed yet here in the early hours it serves as yet another disruption to the dead of the night. But once I’ve made up my mind as to what I want to listen to I’ll put this tablet away, put my music on, and upon breaking the relative silence I’ll no doubt note just how great the music sounds coming out of my system after my ears had adjusted to the sound of almost nothing. Such a simple concept and one of the cheapest “upgrades” to be had.
