What did I do to my Dynaco A10?

I recently purchased a set of Dynaco A10s. Set everything up and all was good—sounded great. I decided to plug my turntable into the AC Outlet on the back of my Pioneer SX-880 receiver to free up the wall outlet. I didn't turn off the receiver before doing this. Made a godawful sound and before I could shut things off, one of the speakers dropped out. The other seems to have survived whatever happened, but now i have one speaker that sounds like this.

I switched to a backup receiver to rule that out. Tweeter seems OK, but the woofer is mostly just a scratchy noise. A search around the web leads me to believer that I may have blown the voice coil but since that seems to be the worst case scenario I figured I'd throw it out here and see if someone smarter than me could give me hope. Or do I go ahead and set up that eBay alert for "A10 driver"...

And it can be dead even if not scraping. Pull it out and check its DC resistance with a multimeter (ohmeter). You should probably go ahead and get that alert set up.

Oooo that sounds crispy. I think it may be a little dead. There may be a member here on AK with a spare. Becoming a member for 25 beans gives you access to our sell/trade forum called bartertown. That may be an option, those speakers are worth putting back in good order.

Welcome to AK. Too bad it's under bad circumstances. Yep. Start that ebay search. It's toasted.

You have a beautiful little girl. Reminds me of Shirley Temple. What a cutie!

Ok, I figured as much but hoped someone would have some magic dust I could sprinkle on it. The hunt is on. Thanks everyone for chiming in.

Incidentally, someone on eBay has one listed, but my guess is this isn't legit given the fact that "Made in the USA" is stamped on it and looks nothing like what's in mine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-x-Dynaco...812171?hash=item4b2de94f8b:g:ih8AAOSw1g9ZoPeD

And thanks, gdmoore28! Get that Shirley Temple comparison about once a week.

You are correct...that is an aftermarket driver that the seller claims is an appropriate replacement. It is certainly not an original A10 woofer.

Yeah, I think that may be for the A25 anyway? A10 has a 6.5" woofer. I'll just keep an eye out. Will give me something to obsess about, haha.

As luck would have it, the speaker gods must have been looking out for me—last night while poking around my wife's grandmother's junk room I stumbled upon a single Acoustic Research AR4x. Need to track down it's mate next time I'm there and test them out. Then offer to help "clean out" the room for her.

These are not Dynaco speakers, color is off and the dust cap is to large..
Can anyone rebuild them for you? I also looked under sold and Damn i saw Dynaco gold badges that i need for my A25's..
Worth getting back up and running.
Just click on newly listed and bookmark it check it every couple days.

I actually found someone on another forum who is selling a pair of A10 woofers for $80 plus shipping. I only need one and it's not exactly a steal, but can anyone chime in on whether this is a fair price? None come up in sold history on eBay, so it's hard for me to gauge. My gut tells me these are fairly hard to come by so I may be waiting awhile for someone selling just one. Plus having an extra lying around wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Never adjust/move/connect stereo equipment while it is on.

You just learned a life lesson and it cost you, did it not?

If you like the speakers, why not? You may be "underwater" on them, but unless you are planning to sell them, no big deal. Good luck with them!
