What did you spin in 1963?

Zenith LPS80 Record Player with Voice of Music V-M B1265-379 changer and SE 6AQ5 amplifier. Nicer than what I had in 1963! Gary Stork at V-M Audio Enthusiasts rebuilt the changer which looked hardly ever used. Tubes tested like new. Spinning some Les Paul on it to make it feel young again.

Well, I was 7, and I had some kind of "carrying case" 45 player in a box with a handle. I can remember playing "The Queen of Hearts She Stole Some Tarts" which drove my Dad crazy. Years later he admited he'd be driving to work and he couldn't get that damn song out of his head!

Wow,1963 huh?

I had a hodgebodge set. A Philco turntable out of a console. Tied it to a Eico monaral amp with a Eico HF85 tuner. Before stereo. Listened to the Fours Seasons and early Beatles. Ah yes! A good time!

Gary Stork's a great guy. He provides a valuable service for us VM fans (see my avatar).

I had the opportunity meet Gary in person today, and for such a little job he was so effusive and did such a meticilous job that I have to put him the "true believers" category. He apparently rescued the remaining inventory of VOM and seems to be the font of wisdom on all things VOM.

This isn't going to be my main rig obviously, but it will get some play on the deck - a 45 will be the price of admission to my next blow-out!

Considering I was -20.........but I would have loved to have spun this:smoke:

Let's see... a High School junior in 1963. Elvis was still King, although well on his way to becoming a lounge act. Listened to a lot of Beach Boys, Duane Eddy, Mancini and still have my Miles sixeyes in remarkably good shape. Who's this Dylan guy and what is he saying?

Listened mostly to the Sylvania console in the living room or the radio in my '56 Chevy (cars/girls/music/freedom and all that). Started my first subscription to Stereo Review that year but it would be another year or so until my first system (Dynakits, AR & Garrard).

I wonder whatever became of Pamela?

A late 50's Webcor portable phonograph in my bedroom. With limited supervised use of my Dad's Eico/Garrard/Jensen system in the living room. Which has since been re-acquired and reinstated over the years.
That first early 60's stereo system was a real awakening to my pre-teen ears back then. And as a young kid, it started me off into getting interested in Hi Fi/Stereo equipment, record collecting and my love for music in general.

Fisher-Price! Santa brought it to me the year before, when I was 2.:music:

What did you spin in 1963? I spent a lot of time at a record store called Deluxe Records in Chicago, where they had record testing booths. :music:

I originally grew up in the neighborhood around Deluxe Music in Chicago! They always had the greatest selection of 45s in the city. Bill the owner, was a great guy! I eventually got to know him very well, because he bought alot of his records from a distributor that I worked at in the 80's. Sad to see him eventually close the store. Must be almost 20 years now. That store was around since the 30's-40's from what I understand.

After checking out a few 45's from the WLS top 40 list at Deluxe, I'd saunter over to Olsen Electronics, grab something off the discount table I could maybe make into something useful, and catch a double feature at the Portage Theater.
When Korvette's opened they brought in a lot of discount LP's that cut into Bill's business.

Very cool :thmbsp:

Let's see...in '63 it would have been a Firestone manual record player with 50C5 output tubes. It was covered in a real pretty blue and white vinyl/cloth textured material, with brass latches. The platter, tonearm and knobs were a cheery cherry red and had dual 4" Oaktron speakers behind cane grilles.

Packard-Bell hybrid console (1/2 tube - 1/2 SS) with a Garrard TT built in. Was a beast, but it would rock for that time. Played a LOT of Ventures LPs :)
