What Do We Have Here?

Can anyone guess what all this is about?

I'm guessing a power supply on the left (maybe 1 of 2) and either a pair of amps on the right.
Tube are (3)7025's and (1) 5879.
There is also a 6X5 in the power supply.
I think this is a special order setup, possible built by a big-name company (Fisher?)

Looks like it could be the tone generator section of an organ. The mic input connectors on each chassis have me stumped, though.

That doesn't look Fisher at all. 7025's are basically a low noise 12ax7, a preamp tube. 5879 is a small signal pentode tube, might be a mic amp stage or something along those lines. Not power amplifiers. Possible you're looking at a tape head amp though.

I'm thinking mic preamp as well for the boxes on the right. I see now the box on the right looks like just the Power Supply. There's more tubes upper left.

Nice Cabinet.

Make sure it's at least a 6X5GT or 6X5GTG. The original 6X5 is a nasty tube that has fried many a power transformer. If it has an original 6X5 in it, test it before using it, or better yet, don't use it at all.

Apparently this is part of a system the was installed in a home. I had a TT and a Fisher receiver. Also two power supplies and these two preamps (or whatever they are) all built into custom casework.
From what I have read about the 7025, it is often used in microphone amps.
I also found a circuit the uses (3) 7025's and a 5879 - Some thing called a Carolina Blues Rocket.
These little guys must have allowed the owner to sing (or play) along.

Ok, hold the phone here....
I ended up buying this and am just now trying to sort out the setup.
I drove 800 miles in 19 hours to get these. I just got home today and haven't had time to play with them at all.
The sale included:
A custom made component cabinet with a Dual 701 turntable ( defiantly needs some restoration work) mounted in the recessed top.

A Fisher FM-100B receiver (no details on this except that it is mounted face up, also in the recessed top and with a costum-made face plate.

A pair of amplifiers with outboard power supplies mounted below the TT and receiver. I am no longer confidantdent in saying these are preamps. They may very well be power amps. All (4) of these components, as well as the cabinet itself, have markings from a company called: MP Engineering Co. I have not found very much on this company other than it is also reference as M.P. Audio Corp. Fairfield Ct. and they did many custom audio installations. The " microphone jacks" are not that at all. These jacks are intended to plug in a remote (hard wired) control box with volumn, bass & treble pots.

The cabinet also has a slide-out section that looks like it had another TT or maybe a reel-to-real deck in it. just a void there noW.

it also came with a pair of Bozak speakers that appear to have been custom built for the customer ( a VERY wealthy man). The speaker cabinets have all the same internal components as a pair of Bozak Consert Grands but in a more compact cabinet. Each cabinet also has what appears to be a super tweeter and crossover.

All of this is a bit overwellming right now, but I hope to get it all sorted out in the next few weeks ! Any comments about the setup or knoweledge of the CT companany would be very much appreciated

Wow, 800 miles, that's dedication. Would like to see the power amps and power supplies, that will tell us a lot more.

I think I fell asleep before I finished that last post.

Cool, though I still say those are not power amplifiers. The tubes in there just aren't the right type, and there are no output transformers. That Dual isn't original either. Its a good 15 years newer than the rest of it.

Is there anything mounted in front of what is visible from the back?

Gadget, after looking things over, I think you are right about the pre-amps. The lack of output transformers is what convinced me. Also, the TT is currently plugged into these (one channel each).

Good point about the age of the TT. In studying the installation, I can tell it is not original to the cabinet. I think there was possibly a reel to reel installed where the Dual now sits. There appears to be a mounting location for a turntable in a slide-out drawer. The weird thing about that is, the drawer is on the "back" of the console unit. I'll post a pic of this later.

Unfortunately, there is no more to see. The photo with the two Power Supplies and the two Preamps is the front of the unit. The photo showing the guts of the amp is taken from the back.
2 Power supplies? 2 Preamps? Agree with Gadget.....where is the amplifier?
Leland, I wish I found some big-ass PS somewhere in there but, did not. So. either either there was an external power amp that no longer exists, or the Fisher provides all the power.
Here's the remote tone control. 2015-12-06 21.00.40.jpg 2015-12-06 21.00.28.jpg Why would this not be mounter into the cabinet?

Those speakers look fantastic!
Thanks, I agree. . And, I can confirm that they still work! 2015-12-05 15.03.34.jpg 2015-12-05 15.03.26.jpg 2015-12-05 15.03.47.jpg

Kasanay, Oh....that makes total sense....the Fisher has the amp.

I'd say that remote control.....is a hi-tech marvel.....of the day. Sit in your comfortable chair....and have the controls right there.....tethered....but that's OK.

It is amazing that all that M.P. Audio gear.....might be for just the Turntable? Or as posted above....microphones. OH...I see...it is for the tethered remote control!! ( just saw the new pic)

Plus...all those RCA plugs into the Preamps....perhaps, the Fisher's preamp is not used....and just it's Amp is used? ( if that model allows that. But don't know how that would work with the radio portion)

It would be interesting to trace all the Preamps RCA cables....as see where they go.....there's appears to be way to many for just a turntable.

The FM100B is just a tuner as far as I can tell
Gadget, you are correct (again). The FM100B is a tuner only.
That leads us back to the earlier question: Where's the power amp? Well it looks like there just isn't one included. I wouldn't be surprised if there was originally a 2nd cabinet with this installation that housed the power amp(s) and power supply.
It would be interesting to trace all the Preamps RCA cables....as see where they go.....there's appears to be way to many for just a turntable.
Leland, there are a lot of cables to trace down. I think I have it sorted out to the point where I can say there was a tuner, turntable and a tape deck. I'm am not sure why ther or so many jacks on the preamps. All the switching and the Stereo/Mono options make it a bit confusing.
Make sure it's at least a 6X5GT or 6X5GTG. The original 6X5 is a nasty tube that has fried many a power transformer. If it has an original 6X5 in it, test it before using it, or better yet, don't use it at all.
Greg, thanks for the tip on the 6X5. Good news is, the guy threw in a box spare tubes:2015-12-05 10.51.51.jpg Looks like ',m covered.

I'd still like to know more about this M P Engineering.

Thanks

OK, well it looks to me then, that you have 2 power supplies and 2 preamps.....with tethered remote control. (Plus the speakers, tuner and TT of course.)

So the beginnings of a very nice set-up. Just need a stereo amp....or a couple mono blocks....and that would be it.

I've never heard of M P Engineering....( not that that means anything )...but they look like they're build like tanks...and very high quality.

Are there any amps in the speaker cabinets? Looks like a cool home built system but the question begs us all, where are the amplifiers?

It would kinda be a bummer if you got this cool system and no way to listen to it at the present moment. :(
