What do you guys think about the new cosmetic changes that ebay is making???

I don't know nuthin bout no Beta. All I know is I was off for a couple weeks and I looked yesterday only to find the pages didn't look the same and the little box where I used to put my zip code to search locally has been replaced by a much more complicated way to do the same thing. I give it a thumbs down.

The new search engine sucks. For example, go to "tuners" category and type "Elite" or "ES" and hit search. It takes you back to "All categories" with tens of thousand of matches. :thumbsdn:

I hope all of you guys are taking the time to write ebay and tell them what you think of it and what the problems are with it. It won't change if nobody bothers to say anything to them about it. It probably won't change anyway but it's worth a try.

I was very happy when i could finally "opt out" of the beta program, i was part of a group of about 15% of users who had no choice but to use the new beta format of my ebay for the last 6-8 weeks.

I dislike it intensely, and if they FORCED me to use it exclusively, they would be history as far as I was concerned.

I hate cookies, and denying cookie access means that the beta goes on.... and with my slower computer, I just go elsewhere and abandon the effort. My ebaying is way down.

The main problems I've been having is with the search engine. Sometimes, I'll check the box to only display listings in my area and when I do another search, it will go back to the default setting, showing 1000's of items. I'm also noticing that the ending times are not in order. The order will be something like 5m, 3h, 22m, 1d6h, etc. I like to see everything that is ending soon to be in order. I won't go into detail; but, there are many recent changes to "that auction site" that irritate me. My ebay activity has also decreased from what it once was.

I could live with the crappy interface, but the search is completely screwed up. Even stored searches don't work properly under the beta.

I think eBay made a fundamental strategic decision a while back. They no longer WANT to be "the world's garage sale", where a lot of individual sellers sell small quantities of stuff. They want to concentrate on larger volume sellers and business arrangements with corporate sellers. They want to transform themselves from a giant flea market into a shopping mall. They want to be more like Amazon than like the old eBay. In the process, they don't care if they pi$$ off all the small sellers and drive them (us) away. In fact, it is exactly what they are hoping will happen. So go ahead and complain... it won't do any good.

Very, very sad.

That's a very good thought that I agree with. They are a gnat's hair from driving this very, very, very small seller away.

Yeah, Ebay themselves have pretty much said that. I would love to start a new auction site but my coding skills aren't the greatest, there are open source solutions but they would require a lot of customization.

Once again my laziness gets the best of me. :D

Yep, this is the same sort of piss poor management decisions that got K-Mart where they are today; bankrupt. Managers get caught up in their power and glory and forget about who and what got them where they were today, and start deciding that they are driving the market and not that the market drives them.

That's exactly what happened to K-Mart when they decided their poo didn't stink and started acquiring ancillary businesses like Pace, OfficeMax, and Builders Square back in the 80's. They got so caught up and enamored in their second tier players that they didn't see that semi trailer from Bentonville coming to run them over. Corporate arrogance, ain't nuttin' like it.

Best part is that all these assholes think they're the chosen ones who can avoid making the same mistakes as those in the past; just like every crook thinks he's not getting caught.

I wish eBay well as I make a nice chunk of change on it, but wish they were more cognizant of who and what really drive their business. I just sold $100 of vintage bike parts overnight via some BINs to a guy in Thailand; where else but eBay could I make that happen??

The old one works fine. They at ebay were bored so they decided to clutter up the site with new stuff to watch you huntin' for your list. :D

Honestly, I get annoyed with the new version. But, I'll just live with it. There are several times I was going to click "opt out" but there are certain feature I wanted on there.
