What Do You "Like" About the New Format?

This thread is intended to provide a place to point out the cool stuff you have discovered about the new platform. Please...let's limit this thread to what you like, and continue to post what you do not like in the other threads, which are many.
  • I really like the new "Conversations," over the old PM system. I always had to bounce back and forth between the inbox and the outbox to follow an exchange, after some time had passed. The new system provides a private thread, with all the trimmings, with input and output in one thread. You can limit the thread to the original recipient, or you can invite others into the thread. When done, you just leave the conversation, and it disappears from your repository. Super.
  • I like the ability to encourage someone who made a particularly cool post, by just hitting the like button. For me, that is much easier and better than creating a reply post with a +1 or a thumbs-up smilie.
  • I like the alerts, that tell me, at a glace, that something I'm interested in has had some activity. I also like the little pop-up notification that presents in the lower left of my screen, to call my attention to a new entry in my alerts.
  • I like the ability to put images right into a post. Along with that, I like that the images are in a somewhat reduced size, initially, but you can click on an image and it expands to full size on the spot, and stays that way until you click it again.
There is much more that I like, but that is enough for now.

What do you folks like about the new platform?

I like:
  • The Stickies only eat up room on first page of a forum instead of on every page.
  • The embedded music video capability, although I don't understand how AK can continue to build up indefinitely storage of those big files if that's indeed what's going on.
  • When you post a link to another post and click on the link it takes you right to the post in the middle of the page it's on. Cool.
  • The pic resizing once they get that tweaked (too much scale-down at the moment).
  • The alerts when they work because it's nice to know when somebody chimes in on an old post of yours. It's also nice to know that a spiraling cluster-f__k is proceeding without any further need of your input.
 
I like the way the site loads up super fast on my Fire HDX and on my pc . I also like the alerts.
 
I kind of like the fact that AK is less a part of my life. I like the new site just fine, I still love vintage audio, tubes and music. I just don't have the desire to participate as much as I did. For some reason there is a disconnect for me. Probably just a welcome short break.
 
Not much, but I do miss the features no longer available (like looking at my attachments so I can reuse a previously uploaded image).

Seriously- I can't count the number of times I've been in the middle of composing a post, and either Firefox crashes, or I fat-finger a control key (instead of shift) and close out a window in the middle of it.

Before, on the old forum software, I was just SOL- but now, usually, I can just open up a new browser window, navigate back to where I was, and VOILA, there it is, waiting for me to finish and post it!!

you know those letters that say "This is not a bill"? Well, this is not a complaint but a question. I still struggle with this site. I'm a person that, from time to time, needs someone sitting next to me when on my computer. I need help but I don't see a HELP button here. Is there one? Thanks for your patience.
p.s. 2 things are a problem. (1) I'd like to do a "watched thread" but when I go there it's not obvious to me how to do it. (2) most of my searches come up empty even though I know the key words in the original post.

Responsive design rocks. ;) If you are on your desktop, try resizing your browser as narrow as you can, and you can see how the format will shift to fit available size.
 
One thing I have always liked is the ability to paste images into the editor. I can do a screen grab and paste it right from the clipboard...

...or I can choose "copy image" in my browser's context menu (right-click), on many images on the Web, and paste them in as well (this from Amazon):

In the past, you either had to save files to the computer and then upload them, or find a URL and paste it into some BBCode, which was sometimes trouble-prone (especially with my fat fingers or poor eyesight).
 
I like that if I put somebody on ignore (which I very rarely do) their threads just show as started by 'ignored member'. This strikes me as funny, for some reason.
 
Read with avid interest the positive comments to date and concur with the posters' kudos. The question of this thread itself kept the intended spin on things.

After dropping in on several of other "audio" sites, I find AK's set up (design) easier to operate and more intuitive. That's not to say that future changes will not be not necessary.

In addition, I feel a far more comfort level here in asking for help from those who have a greater knowlege base in this area of endeavour.

The monitors on AK are not as "heavy handed" as I found compared to similar sites out there. At times it is difficult time being one, but they do a great job! :thumbsup:Guess it's much like being a ref in the middle of a game as there's always those who like to "stir it up".

Finally, I find that Ak is far more deeper in content and variety.

All the sites I visited had their had their strengths and weaknesses, it's just that AK has more of the former, eh?

Just my take on things.

That is a double-edged sword. If too lenient, the forum starts looking like an unmoderated mess. If too strict, it can come across as heavy-handed. And it depends how each staff needs to handle it. A site may need more public strict moderation when there are a lot of contentious topics, especially to deal with the few bad ones that ruin it for everyone. We get accused of that on a couple of other forums I work with. Yet (like with AK) we also get a lot of praise for the strict moderation to keep the general unpleasantries of the Internet out of the discussions.

And trust me, you don't want to see what the staff has to remove. One forum I was working on, the reported posts were coming in as fast as I could deal with them. The guys here probably deal with a lot of ugliness to keep this place as clean as it is! It's not an easy job. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

It also depends on how the member who posted it handles it too. Seen too many threads get haywire when the poster just won't take a hint or gets all personally in a huff. Happens.

BTW, where is SCS, MI? Near a lake can mean a lot in Michigan! I used to live in E. Lansing, Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, and Muskegon.
