what does the ma stand for?

Ive bought a pair of yamaha ns 500ma .Was wondering what the ma stands for? monitor......?:scratch2:

I wonder if there was a previous use of this speaker model designation, ie NS-500M, and they were just trying to differentiate the two models? Or maybe the "a" meant it was designed for a specific market region? Hmm...

Yamaha used a plain "M" suffix to indicate a monitor version of a speaker (NS-1000 vs NS-1000M).

:scratch2: Not sure about "MA", though...

Is the MA speaker finished in maple veneer, perhaps?
(Just a wild guess, but it wouldn't be the first time a suffix was used to indicate a color/finish/veneer change.)

...But I think it more likely that the "M" indicates a monitor, and the "A" something else (maybe an ash veneer?).

There was an NS-500 model that was a two-way ported design, but I don't recall it having the M suffix.
