What Famous Album Don't You "Get"

I haven’t read this whole thread, but Bitch’s Brew escapes me. I really tried to appreciate it, but it’s just irritating to these ears. I must lack sophistication. :(
I was with you till one hectic day at work followed by a nightmarish drive home rendered me unable to listen to 'proper' music that 'made sense'. Ever since it's been one of my favourite Miles albums, soothing this savage breast as the need arises.

Uh oh, I hit a soft spot! I take it all back then. In truth, I love the Elton of yore and his partnership with Taupin but am grossed out by his latter day Liberace vibe.

This strange and fat little gnome of a man you refer to is as dynamic and powerful today as he was when he was young. Go see his current show in Las Vegas (with his original musicians no less) and see if folks like him should die young.

I don't get this... "Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd" - is that French or German? I had no problem with just Lynyrd Skynyrd. Why did they have to complicate it?
Probably because people were pronouncing it Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I don't get people not getting DSOTM. Does anyone here get Ummagumma?
Me neither, but I'm also fond of small, furry animals.
I don't get people trashing LZ in this thread. Isn't that against the constitution?
It's not against mine, but mine also likes a stiff black coffee before a throne session with a newspaper....:rflmao:

A lot of Neil Young's albums are a no-go for me (fully realizing that he said he makes music for himself and couldn't care less what others think). They just sound like him talking with white noise int he background.

Speaking of Pink Floyd, The Final Cut is a dead-ender. I know the backstory, but it too sounds like talking with noise in the background. I AM an admitted big fan of other works however (DSOTM, Animals, WYWH, Wall, Momentary Lapse).
I have yet to explore releases prior to DSOTM. It's on my to-do list.

Yes. I hated "Money" so I had no interest in PF. Then I heard "See Emily Play" and bought Relics. That was cool so I bought A Nice Pair. So I'm telling this other kid about all this early PF. He says "Try Ummagumma". A lot sounds like filler but "Grantchester Meadows" is a classic and "The Narrow Way" shows what they might have become post-Syd had they not gone down the road they did.

What did one Grateful Dead fan say to the other after he quit drugs?

"Man, this music sucks!"
I genuinely feel sad for people that haven’t “got” the magic of the Dead! Also, I feel hopeful, and jealous, that they may have that amazing turn on moment anytime. Unless of course, they allow for there opinions to limit their possibilities.

It has taken me a long time to appreciate this album it grows on you over time.

About the time the album was released there was a show on TV of them doing the album live in a small venue. They also talked about how everything came about. The fun they had working together makes the album all that much better. (IMO)

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

I really like this one in the pop/rock genre. The songs are mostly sad and talk of the alienation that teens discover and some people feel quite strongly. Need to be in the right mood for it. I treat it as a Brian Wilson concept album. Most of the music is played by the top studio musicians in LA at the time.

Didn't Gene Simmons say if you liked Fleetwood Mac, you couldn't like Kiss?

Gene might have said that and he would be missing the fact that Fleetwood Mac started as a Blues Band and morphed into various other versions over time.

KISS is one band I never had in my music collection, still don’t. I was in high school when they came out and they looked and sounded like a kiddie gimmick band to me. I never heard any evolution in their many radio hits to want to listen to them.

I'm sure he was talking about the Nicks/Buckingham incarnation.
