What Famous Album Don't You "Get"

With Todd Rundgren and Andy Partridge of XTC sniping at each other about "Skylarking", I'm reminded about how much I TRIED to like it. Other than "Dear God", I found it ...MEH.
What's the album that YOU were supposed to love, but could never "get"?

Van Morrison's work leaves me cold. I found the CD of "Astral Weeks" at a thrift store last year and gave it a try, but it bored me to tears. Part of the problem is his voice, which I find a bit too strident.

I do like "Gloria" and "Mystic Eyes" by Them, however!

Really? I loved that album from the start. It was the "Sgt. Pepper" of the '80s for me. Curiously, "Dear God" was the least interesting track on the album. (I have a first pressing with "Mermaid Smiled," which was dropped on later pressings and replaced with "Dear God.")

Dark Side Of The Moon - even with drugs.

Generally speaking, I'm not much into '70s classic rock, but I like "Dark Side Of The Moon" quite a bit. It's held up very well over the decades IMO. The "sampled" intro to "Money" is very clever (and quite an engineering feat for 1973, on analog tape), and it's interesting to me that they wrote a radio hit that was in the unusual time signature of 7/4.

As did I.

I also really loved their side project: The Dukes of Stratosphear

I have the Dukes' "25 o'clock" and "Psonic Psunspot" LPs...both excellent. Quirky psychedelia.

"Black Sea" is such a great album. But beyond that... a few great songs and a lot of MEH.

What are Rundgren and Partridge sniping about?

I swear the first time I heard that song I thought -

a) Doesn't sound like Pink Floyd
b) It's a rip-off from some other song - maybe a TV show theme or something - it didn't sound original at all

At any rate DSOTM was very famous - some of these other "famous" examples I've never heard of.

You know, I was that way for a very long time. Then one day it hit me. Now, for at least the first five albums, I'm a fan. Spotty beyond that.
