What Famous Album Don't You "Get"

Fleetwood Mac, "Rumors"... or any F.M. with Stevie Nicks. Too bad her and Lindsay were a package. Last Mac album I liked was " Mystery To Me" :king:

I agree 100% on "Rumours." That album was popular when I was in college and I could never figure out why. It was so overplayed on my dorm floor that I went from being puzzled by it to openly despising it.

I'm a big Miles fan but Bitches Brew is hard to take.I like some Beach Boys stuff but don't understand all the hoopla over Pet Sounds.Greatfull Dead never did a lot for me ,some of the tunes are cool,in fact Ripple is in my reportoir but Garcia's leads are uninteresting.

I've grown very tired of the Rolling Stones, and just can't do them anymore. I was a hard-core fan of theirs until I hit about 55, then it went south. Still like the Beatles, though. And never got the Who.

Many of these bands that people say they don't "get" are freakin' easy to "get." If you don't "like" a band, fine, but please don't tell me you don't "get" it. This is, after all, rock & roll.

I mean, my mom is 80 and ****ing "gets" David Bowie. Same goes for the Rolling Stones because she sure as **** knew that I had no business going near their concert when I was 10. "There will be lots of drugs," she said. Years later, I confirmed that she was right.

The beatles' white album and sgt. Pepper. I am a total beatles lover and i do love some of the songs in the albums but how they are considered seminal is something i'm still grappling with.

I would say one that comes to mind is "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis. I bought it new when it came out and ended up getting rid of it because it was beyond my young ears at the time. I'd like to find a good vinyl copy now.
It took me a long time to like this one too, till I had a hectic day at work and it was the only music that made any sense that evening.

What I don't get is Steely Dan - Aja...or any of their stuff for that matter. Mediocre talent at best. Only good thing about it is the fidelity of the recording but even that's not enough to keep me from tuning it out.

The other day, I was spinning Amnesiac by Radiohead. After about 20 minutes, I got up, ejected the disc, and for no apparently sane reason, launched into a diatribe about Thom Yorke and his whiny voice that would make either pj o Rourke or Andy rooney blush.

If everyone thinks they're so great, why can't I enjoy it?

That's what I find fascinating about these type threads. Nobody should feel insulted, so let's all be adults here.
thankya, thankyavurrrymuch

I never really got Pink Floyd-The Wall. It was just too much of a downer for me. Many attempts with copious amounts of herbal supplementation didn't even help. :dunno:

I'm a huge Sinatra fan, so when I found an almost pristine copy of "Live at the Sands" I jumped on it. What a total waste. Two LP set and tons of monologue and not enough music. I understand it was recorded live at the Sands but could someone have edited all the chatter and concentrated on the music? I finally taped the LPs and skipped all the talk, now it's enjoyable.

And as an aside, I LOVE Bitches Brew. You want to test your system for fidelity play some of those tracks with the cacophonous drum sets, various percussions all chiming in at once. But, that's what I love about music; one person's likes is another's dislikes

I'll third Miles Davis' Bitches Brew. Bought my own copy about 25 years ago on the basis that it's supposed to be THE pivotal album bridging straight ahead jazz and fusion jazz. To me it sounded/still sounds dated and almost hoaky. Maybe it's just me. OPG.

Other than 2 songs, "A Wizard A True Star" leaves me cold. I do think Todd is a very talented guy but he sounds best to me when he's playing in the company of other musicians with a good producer. When he does it all - like Paul McCartney has done - he too often strikes out. Plus, as a songwriter he's not that great; certainly not even close to McCartney.
