What is a SCORE, SCROE in your definition?

Mystery

constantly upgrading...
Only based on $ value.
Not based on "I paid more than what they go for but it's score for me because I wanted it since I was a kid"...

Is it a score if you got something for half of their going rate?
Is it a score only if you got something for half price that costs at least $100, $200, $500, $1k or more?
It won't make sense to scream SCROE when someone finds something worth $10 for $1 even if it's 90% off. :lmao:

In my book, my minimum should be at least something that's around a hundred that I got for less than 33%.
If it's something worth over hundred, there should be an easy hundred by reselling right away.

I got minimus 7's for $10 and I won't call it a score as I can hardly make $25 if I sell it.
But I did call my JBL L100T's a SCROE for $20. ;)

What's in your brain waves?

It's a score if a) it's free b) the person you're getting it from is totally clueless why you've got an insane look in your eyes as you quickly wrap up the transaction c) the person you're getting it from gives a subtle nod and knowing smile at the insane look in your eyes as you quickly wrap up the transaction.

I'll give you some examples of scroes:

McIntosh MX110, McIntosh MC240, and JBL speakers with LE15s, PR15s, and LE85s for $70.

Marantz Model 7 and pair Model 2s for $300.

McIntosh MC275 for $200.

Altec Model 19s, Technics Professional Series Gear (Preamp, Tuner, Cassette, Parametric EQ) with the matching rack and an SL1300 MKII, and Altec 9444 Power Amp for $800.

The first two were my father's scroes, the second two mine. There have been others but those are the standouts.

I'll also give some examples:D
JBL SVA 2100 free
Rogers Ls8a $10
JVC QL50 with sme 3009 tonearm and dynavector mc cart $120
Thorens TD 150 mk2 perfect $120
Thorens TD 318 Garrott mc cart$120
Record bought for $1 sold for $2200
Vintage valve guitar amp and lap steel guitar $25 sold for$1200+
I've had numerous minor and major scores over the years I could keep going but there are plenty who have had as many if not more.
It's all a matter of being persistent:thmbsp:

MC275 for $200 is a serious SCORE, damacman because MC275 is still available for retail and it's NEW (latter updated model i believe) at for example BestBuyMagnolia or other mass people's store for more than $200 even if your MC275 is the older version than the latter McIntosh model.

It's a scroe if it leaves you feeling as if you had just unexpectedly been kissed by a beautiful girl [yeah ....it's that good] my favorite scroe-Jbl c 38 Barons in very nice condition-60 bucks! Mac 1400 with walnut case [minty] 40 bucks! JBL L220S NEAR MINT 200 bucks! Bogen hta250A monoblocs 70 bucks! Mitsubishi DA10DC 100 bucks! Pair of webster 6v6 ppp organ amps freeeeee!

From what I've seen a score is when a buyer feels they've ripped the seller off.

Example: This little old lady just sold me her recently deceased husbands Macintosh tube system for $50.00, man did I score!

Note the seller's ignorance of valuation is the key to a good "score"...

For me it's the local finds, being in the right place at the right time makes it feel...right

NRG A401 Monoblocks for 350, lifetime score for me, even if they don't (yet) work...

In contrast, a pair of series 2 bose 901's I found on ebay for less than 50 posted...yes they're worth considerably more than that here in the UK, but I don't consider them a score as they were on ebay and lots of people could have bid but didn't.

Allison Model One's for free. All they needed was surround replacement. Owner had no clue as to what he had, just wanted them gone and I was happy to oblige.

Enough with the SCROE! already! You guys are messing with my head! It's like listening to one of those misheard lyrics songs on YouTube. Then every time you hear the real song you wanna sing it the wrong way.

Anyhow, I would consider a score anything I could walk away from the deal feeling I got a bargain, or found something that I had really been wanting for a fair price.

Recent example:
Pioneer spec system $800
SA-9500II
TX-9500II
SG-9500
RT-707
JA-R2S rack and adapters.

Didn't exactly steal it, but yeah, that pretty girl kissed me feeling.

Scroe: Any time that a buyer receives desired merchandise whose value exceeds the selling price.

...Of course, there are DEGREES of "scroeing"...

A scroe is when you have to keep pinching yourself for several days to make sure it actually happened. You wake up at night giggling about it. You call, text, email and PM everybody you know who's into music to tell them about it. You hide the item/items in your house because you know someone will find out about it and try to steal it from you.

Thanks for comments but this thread is more about theory of score.
You can backup your thoughts on score with examples but a post that only lists scores is nothing new.
We have many threads already.

So you got a great deal, great!
But why was it a score for you?
What defines that line between a good deal vs a SCROE is the topic.
Keep them coming. ..

Yes, the degree is different and that's what I'm after, not actual scores.

Definition of a scroe: you are afraid to post how much you paid for the item on this forum for two reasons. The first reason is that you will evoke jealousy. The second reason: if you ever try selling the item in BarterTown at a reasonable market price, you will get a lot of grief about profiteering.

A score is just that,a SCORE!
It may not be one to others but if you think it is one,it is one!
Like everything else in Life it's what you think that counts!
No one else"s opinion should carry any weight again Period and I mean nobody!

If you pay close attention, a score HERE is more like paying top dollar for a mediocre 70's receiver. And there's plenty of those scroes.

Absurd. Sounds like bitterness on your part.

This seems a good definition.

A score is a getting good price on that item you desperately want, and getting a lifetime friend when you find the seller is a kindred spirit.

Or, a score is getting a great price when the seller actually knows what he or she has, and decides that you stand out as a nicer human being than other responders, so you should get the item.
