What is your Avatar??

Thorens TD-125 MK1 with a servo driven Rabco SL8E linear tracker that I retrofitted with a tubular, viscous damped unipivot arm. This was published as a modification project in the March 1976 issue of "The Audio Amateur" magazine, a DIY publication that sadly no longer exists. Still my #1 tonearm.

I've always wondered how many of you actually have permission to use the photos in your avatars? :deal:
The story of my avatar is quoted in the post above by zebra03. I took the photo of the painting that hangs in my listening room. The painting was handed down from my grandfather to my father, and then to me.

My cats signed, notarized documents giving me permission to post pictures of them on the Internet.

Mine is the control panel of a mahogany cabinet tube stereo made by Ampex. Ampex reel to reel was developed by Bing Crosby so he could get paid for multiple performances at the same time. Then too, he was tired of constantly flying to Kanas City and New York just to do a weekly radio show. He insisted upon the utmost in quality so that his sponsors would not have anything to complain about. The quality was and still is of the highest quality used in the music industry. This is why most music recording companies still use Ampex reel to reel when making master tapes and most of our vinyl comes from master tapes created on vintage Ampex Equiptment that is still being used today. The high end stereo cabinets from Ampex are the highest specifications and exceed the capabilities of Equiptment made by other manufactures even today. The Ampex 5202 was made in 1961 at the request of Bing Crosby, so he and his crowd of entertainers could listen to music in the highest quality possible. Bings buddy, Bob Hope was given one of these for Christmas of that year. Frequency response tests higher than any other equiptment......the highest of fidelity !

Due to the price of almost a thousand dollars a pop back in '61 it will be almost impossible to find on of these, this one belonged to Joey Bishop.

That is one thing I am really getting sick of in this country. The overzealous intellectual property laws. And it did not start yesterday either. Long time ago, perhaps 20 years, a guy came around the shop selling these sheetmetal works of art. Textured and pounded and then inked or whatever. I am sure you've seen them. So I asked if he had one of the skyline of Cleveland. He replied that you cannot sell that without paying royalties.

And I am not against musicians making money, but there was a move on to force bars and restaurants to pay separate for royalties on any music the play. You know, you already charged twenty bucks for a two bit piece of plastic.

Yesh gvul.

That is absurd...
