I found these in town today...

Wings - Greatest Hits $6.00. Very good vinyl and cover, inner sleeve split on 3 sides
Alan Parsons Project - I Robot $4.00. Everything very good.

and the ones that got me excited..

Steely Dan - Aja $10.00. Excellent cover, vinyl NM almost flawless
Jethro Tull - Aqualung $8.00 Same as above, everything excellent condition
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick $8.00. Again, everything in excellent condition

I dont have a lot of resources close to home, so finding the above 3 in such great shape was quite a find for me....

Did I overpay???

I would say no, you did not pay too much. Something to remember, if you can get them close to home and no shipping costs or damage and are able to inspect closely before purchase It is worth paying a couple bucks more per album for the opportunity to get them close to home IMHO. Hope this helps. Steve

Its tough to say.. I bought all my original Tull stuff in the mid 1980's so I cant say in todays pricings... But as far as tull goes... if they are all in good shape and are as follows:

Aqualung: Reprise label with lyrics sheet insert and cover is somewhat canvas-like then excellent deal. If its a green label Chrysalis, not as good. If its a blue/white Chrysalis it is a common post '76 pressing and less valuable. Also, listen to the end of 'Wind Up' (last track) there should be an extra (ghost track) verse "I dont believe you, you got the whole damned thing all wrong, im not the kind you have to wind up, on sunday" That was not included in the later pressings.

Thick as a Brick: Jacket should not be glossy, label should be brown Reprise with complete LARGE Newspaper fold out in gatefold. Green Chrysalis is later pressing, and Blue/white Chrysalis is not so special.

If they meet the above "original" criteria id say that you did good considering there was no shipping involved!

When Tull collecting for originals, keep in mind that the Reprise label ran through 1972, from 73 to 75 they ran a green chrysalis label, and 1976 and later had the blue/white chrysalis label.

For 'This Was' (68) and 'Stand Up' (69) you should keep your eyes peeled for Brown Reprise labels that have an orange top segment (two-tone). These are especially rare first pressings. (more-so for 'Stand Up'.... that in 2-tone is a true rarity)

Great info, thanks a lot. That clears up a lot, because I remember finding a few Aqualung with the canvas like cover that was in the 10.00 - 12.00 range and they were beat all to crap, and the vinyl was pretty rough, so when I saw this one today for 8.00 in such great shape I was all over it.

The Aqualung has a brown reprise label, but no canvas cover or lyric sleeve and the end of Wind Up has the extras lyrics. The cover is gatefold with a painting inside. Sounds like I got an original vinyl, that has been perhaps misplaced in a later pressings cover and sleeve...

Thick as a brick has a full paper gatefold, with blue/white label on vinyl.

Its a start I guess...I'll be keeping an eye for better quality Tull albums, until then I'll spin these and enjoy the music. Thanks again for the information.

It's all good. Thats how I got my Tull collection, at one point I had at least (2) copies of everything they had (3 of some) and I eventually whittled down the collection to the best of each, sold, gave away or traded the duplicates!

(took about 7 years to get my "Tull Library" all sorted out)

Also, note that the Aqualung lyrics sheet was just a square paper insert. The sleeve was just a plain paper sleeve, and later reprise paper sleeves through 72 had a old-fashioned looking photo of the warner bros building / street with a date)

Not sure, but I am considering Judas Priest - Killing Machine, which is a white label promo, and the strange thing is it looked like a US pressing, which is strange because I did not know this was ever released in the US. Also considering Black Sabbath - Live at Last. I'm just not used to paying $5 an album. If I don't get back to the store soon they will be gone.
