What is your system capable of?

One system I have rigged up here....let's not go there...

It is reliable as a laxative.

It once took out an entire window on the opposite side of the room during the reproduction of a good-quality recording of a pipe organ recital--Carillon de Westminster.

A number of years ago I played the first couple of tracks of a CD called "Chiller" one afternoon for my brother-in-law on this mighty stereo.

At the other end of this great farmhouse my niece and nephew burst into tears because they were frightened by the sudden clap of thunder they heard in the middle of winter when they weren't expecting it, and I caught hell from their mom shortly afterwards.

I don't listen to that setup much these days; I like what hearing I have left. :D

I forgot to mention that my 12 ft by 12 ft building is at least 30 ft from the house. When I crank my system up loud it can be heard very clearly in the house! I'm assuming those Magnavox speakers are very efficient? For DIY speakers they sound excellent. I do have Lpads for the horns and super twweeters to balance them with the woofer.

When I crank the HPM's with my KR-9400 the smaller JVC amp next to it's power meters start going bonkers and it isn't turned on.:scratch2: Oh forgot to mention that the ducks on the HPM's walk off the tops of the speakers and take a swim in the carpet.

Ive got that problem too... only it's my neighbors that can hear it.. and one that is well over 100 yards from my house has mentioned the "noise level" he has heard on rare occasion.. That was during the winter with doors and windows closed..

Glad I don't do it often, and glad they don't believe in calling the cops..

137 db with all eleven speakers going at once driven by 2 amps playing Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in D.

What exactly is that epic system comprised of? Sounds like quite something.

I have a good recording of Carillon de Westminster done by Virgil Fox on the Wanamaker Organ. I'll have to dust that off again.

This setup consists of 4 channels, each at 250W--most of the audio handled by a Hafler 500 and the low frequencies and infrasonics handled by a home-brew amp. The general audio is handled by PRM 12" 3-way reference monitors while the other two channels drive some bass bins made from Wurlitzer model 40 tone cabinets--40"Wx36"Hx27"deep, and each loaded with a 15" driver. Crossover frequency is 60Hz IIRC.

I hope to get this up and running again someday. I plan on building a Moscode-type amplifier for the mains, and perhaps use a DH-500 for the bins.

I have that CD. Yeah, on a good system I can see it scareing the crap out of people.

As "Terrible" Ted Nugent would say it... My system is guaranteed to blow the balls off a charging rhino at 50 paces, yes it is.

How do you blow out the windows, before the standing wave sets in the room? Im running 12 15''s and 4 10''s + 2 18"s subs and the low end just locks up. Hence the standing wave, more air movement then the room can handle. the low end just drops out. Im lucky to get to 114 db before this happens. The room is a big basement, and you need to open the windows to get the bass to move again to stop the standing wave. I must need some tube amps to get the windows to blow out:D. I'll just have to sell the Sansui's and the Crown, and get me one of those little systems to blow out the windows:tears: Man I would of saved alot of money.:dammit:
