What other speakers sound like McIntosh???

I purchased my mint condition Vienna Acoustics Mahler speakers used for less than 1/2 of retail. I used a MC-402 with them for quite a while and was very happy.

It would be a great idea to try to schedule some time and just go listen to a number of different speakers out there with some CDs that you know well.

Thanks for all of the great responses. A lot of good opinions here!

My room is not optimal, but 12 feet wide and my listening position is ~12 from the speakers.

I am using a MC402 and realize that to step up to the big Mc speakers I would need a power upgrade, that, I do not think I have the space for.

As far a budget... something is going to have to really blow me away to get me to part with 10K, but I guess I would.

I was kinda hoping that a used pair of XLS 360's might do it for me.

Also, I would really like to avoid the use of a sub.

You should listen to a pair of Khorns. Colter on the Klipsch forum is sellinng a pair for around $8K

If I had "corners" there would be no other question...

I would by a pair of early (circa 1968) K-Horns and be done with it.

Love that sound.

But alas... no corners for those horns to sing to.

Well based on your room size -- these Tannoy Westministers won't fit. Puts their size in room perspective.

The Kensington model in the Prestige line is the better deal (over the Glenairs).

Your biggest challenge is to go listen to what strikes your interest -- that's what I did for 2 years. Glad that is over with.:thmbsp:

Sonus Faber, thin sounding? That doesn't sound right two dot, what were the listening conditions. My Sonus GP's are admittedly entry level but they are not thin sounding. Help me out here Sonus owners who are higher up the model line. :saywhat:

I am on my second pair of SF and have heard just about every speaker they make. I guess listening to monitors in a very large room and depending on the rest of the gear can possibly sound a little lean. When things are right, SF are anything but thin, lean or fatiguing, that would go against their philosophy and design.

Hey all you SF lovers here... please don't get me wrong. SF are some of the most beautiful, musical speakers I have ever heard.

If my listening style and tastes were different, I could live happily ever after with a pair of their monitors or perhaps a pair of "M's"

Thanks RC... I needed that!

Listening right now... they sound pretty good...

Of course, I am cruising the www for XRT's...

No, not to worry two dot, no offense taken. To characterize Sonus Fabers as lean though is antithetical to what you normally hear when someone describes their sound, hence my curiosity about the conditions during your demo (maybe Serge is onto something there). I also have Klipsch Chorus for barn dances :D , and Dali MS5's as my main speakers :thmbsp: and enjoy both as well. Good luck, shopping for new audio is great fun!!

they "both" need a "pair" !!!??!?!

4 subs 2 speakers? I like where you are going with this!

Like I said, they both need a pair of subs... :D

Hey, I try to tell it like it is. It would not bother me if the LS360s needed a lot of subs. However, mine measure flat at 20hz and up 3db at 25hz. It is kind of hard to feel the need to add a sub with those kind of numbers. I have two subs but turn them off for music. Sometimes I have to double check to see if they are off. Now with movies, 4 subs would be great!
