What receiver/amp did you buy for $10 or under?

At the "World's longest yard sale" a Sansui 7000 - they wanted $5 - I offered them $3 - they said "sold" - what a powerful unit -

I'm starting to think the b.s. is getting a little heavy... next I'll be reading "they paid me $2 to take it away"

Question:

Do local town recycling centers frown upon people going there looking for gear? I went the other day for the first time and there is a guy at the entrance that asks what your there for (i had some cardboard to throw out) and sometimes asks your address.

Some strictly prohibit it, some frown upon it, some don't, some sell it cheap to whoever wants it, some site workers take for themselves and their 'contacts'. It depends on what the culture is at a given site, and this can change with time. Just ask if you can take any electronic stuff. Or just grab something out of the bin and see if someone starts yelling at you. If they don't, good. If they do, just shrug and put it back. It's good to salvage gear, even if the lawyers told the bosses to tell them to tell you you can't. You'll find out one way or another.

When the guy I bought my Bose 601s for $20 he also bought down from the attic a Sansui reciever and didn't look all that good either and was sold for $5 .before I bought though I said I wanted to see if it powered up and not only did it power up flames started to come out of it ,yes literal flames I immediately unplugged the thing and put it out side .We agreed no sale for Anyone and he dumped it.Looking back there was so much dust inside when it warmed up it just flamed. I always wondered if I blew it out w/canned air and cleaned it might of worked . Oh well at least the house didn't burn down. Most all other stuff bought on C/L but not for $5.....

I found this Onkyo TX-4500II for $5.95

I can add a Yamaha R-9 stereo receiver, 1985-87, 125 w/ch, a beast with Class A and Class A B switch, found at a garage sale on 10-26-13, for $8, no remote - works great and in great shape, but is all black, no walnut, silver trim or blue dial lights.
Keep them coming.

I'll jump in on this zombie thread!
I picked up a Sansui 7070 for $10 at a weird thrift store in the middle of nowhere. It required extensive work to get running, but it eventually worked. Cost much more than $10 in the end. Totally worth it!

Ok so I know it's a 10.00 top but technically I got a Bryston 3B and an Audio Research LSBMKII for 40.00 and then a discount to bring it to a total of 20.00 for the pair give or take.

That was way back in my early days of audio collecting. That same thrift gave me a set of Klipsch Chorus 1's that I ran for years and years.

Ok a Fisher 800C and 2 Pioneer SX-1010's 10 each from the same fellow same day

Braun Regie 520 with Braun L715 speakers came to me free. Just needed a relamp. EICO ST-70, Sony TA-N86B, and Sony TA-E86B, each were $9.95 before the senior's discount. Numerous speakers, turntables and tape decks for $10 or lower, but that is outside the purview of this thread. Still, I can't help mentioning my Thorens TD-160 with Ortofon VMS-20E for less than $10.
