I was in the process of being draft/inducted into the Army in 1969, but was granted a delay until my college semester ended.

In the meantime I enlisted in the Navy Reserves which included 2 years active duty, but I had to agree to go in as a Corpsman. Not knowing what that was, I agreed. During a class on 'battlefield dressing of sucking chest wounds" I discovered that the Marines don't have medics, they use Navy Hospital Corpsmen. But I managed to change rate to CT (Communications Technician). While stationed on Taiwan I volunteered for a temp assignment to the Philippines and then on to Phu Bai, Vietnam. For a reason I will never know, after 2 months in the Philippines the Navy sent me back to Taiwan. There was a number of Marines that worked as CT's with us - craziest bunch of guys I ever met, and that's a compliment.
