Is there a dustcover? If so, try using a Zerostat to get rid of the static. I will occassionally check my dustcovers by moving my forearm, hairy side down, across the dustcover and there is often quite alot of static. A quick zap with the Zerostat and all static is gone. Records get checked the same way.
