What speakers should I look at?

Found these on CL:

Polk Monitor 7 $250
Polk Monitor 10A $275
Polk Monitor 12C $250 (probably too wide for my room layout)
Polk RTA 11TL $300 (with receiver inc, try to talk down to 200)(just right size)
Polk RTA 15TL $300
Infinity RSb $150
Pioneer HPM60 $250
Klipsch KG 4.2 $150

Looking to possibly replace my Infinity Qb's (cabs need re-finishing).

Or, I could try and refinish & recap mine with some real wood veneer?

Probably the RSb has my highest interest as I like the Infinity sound, the Polk RTA11 2nd since they are towers and would fit my room better.

The first two Polks you have listed are priced pretty high. Not that they're not worth it sound-wise, but they're too pricey.
Out of that list, I think the Klipsch are the best deal. YMMV

What will you be driving them with?

RSb has a lot more series resistance hanging across it's input(they're a more reactive load), and will drive differently than your Qb's. Your amplifier needs to be up to the task in order to enjoy the improved sonics.

Harman/Kardon PM655

60/100 wpc (4/8)
45 amp current
Recapped

Should handle RSb's well.

Just my .02, there are no bad speakers in your list, but the RSb's stand out as being perhaps on a tier above the rest.

I was thinking same thing. I like the EMIT sound. The RSb has nicer cab and drivers

Some guy in Greensboro has ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR CLASSIC 18 on ebay @ $299

Those look to be the right size for my room. I need to go with the narrow tower style. My Qb's are just fitting without closet door hitting them.

KG4.2 is the best deal, sort of. Be careful with the horn, it can be bright. The rest are very pricey.

I would pose your search question in Speakers forum (without prices). Better to find the model you really want and then troll CL and ebay for the best deal.

Mike, I would question if these AR's - nor several on the CL list above - are an upgrade, side grade, or even downgrade from your Qb's. Can you set a budget for us, if you have a preference for slim towers vs stand/monitor (or if it's just the footprint requirement), and maybe what qualities you'd like to enhance or minimize if possible? I think you will get some much much better recommendations (I have a few in mind but want to wait until I see this guidance).

He woods.
Polk Monitor 7 $250 -haven't heard, but I've heard the 5's and 10's... both good! Price seems high for my neck of t
Polk Monitor 10A $275 - good speakers, price needs to drop fifty bucks, if bring sold in my part of the country.
Polk Monitor 12C $250 (probably too wide for my room layout) - too wide? Then why even ask?!?
Polk RTA 11TL $300 (just right size) - versatile and known for full low end.
Polk RTA 15TL $300 - not familiar
Infinity RSb $150 - fair price and great sound!
Pioneer HPM60 $250 - overpriced. 60's aren't 100's.
Klipsch KG 4.2 $150 - best price, but you have to like klipsch sound.

The 12C's are outstanding speakers! I assume you mean RTA-12C's and not Monitor 12's. And also, the RTA12C's are not that much wider than the Monitor 10's you are asking about. Taller though. The 7's and 10's are way over priced imo.

Monitor 7's? I'm maybe even thinking of stacking new speaks on top of Qb's

I've never been a fan of stacking, though stacking identical speakers might not be the end of the world. I did stack some 901's on top of some speakers once, just for the heck of it... interesting experiment.

The only stacked speakers I've ever liked was the 'std' practice of stacking large Advents back in the day. But they still had the comb filtering problems any arrangement like that would. And only one pair - or neither - will be positioned optimally for your listening spot. Bad idea all around.

And yeah Mike, Monitor 7c's ... Reputedly Matthew Polks 'favorite' of his designs.

I had like 4 pairs of the polks in your list . The 15tl needs more power to open up then 60 watts. I would choose none of the above and look for jbl's .
