There is too much great music out there (and too little time) to focus on the negative aspects of one silly video.

Plenty of GREAT music being made these days, none of it, bar a very, very, very small bit would be considered "popular" music.
 
It used to be "commercially acceptable, and artisticly viable". Now it seems the later is not as important. Their still is good music to be found out there.

Yes it is music. Nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you to like it. It's also not a blanket representation of all music out there.

Bad music and good music have always been created side by side. Always.

Today you don't really chose what you can run into . You Tube is everywhere even on supermarkets ..
I see this as fraud - they let you watch SEX and distract you from listening .
Videos are so RAW they just don't want you to use your ears . just watch and drool.

You're grasping at straws OP. I manage to avoid the top 40 music just fine. I'd recommend traveling with a pair of headphones on you at all times. They really come in handy when one must go to the mall. Plug them into your smartphone. Open Pandora or Spotify, and block out the music you don't want to hear with music that you do.

There is a solution for every situation. Nothing is unavoidable. I couldn't tell you what a lit of the current top 40 sounds like. I successfully block it out.

I remember being in a night club (are they still called that) in the late 70s...punk era style. Playing loudly over the sound system was a song sung by a female. Every line had 2 or 3 four letter words in it. Both "C" words and what she wanted done with them. I was plenty drunk, but almost fell off my stool (and not from the liquor) in shock. I have no idea who the "artist" was and I do not want to know.

Well, in the U.S. there was hokum in the 1920s as filthy as anything today, and of course cabaret funny business before that, but the real answer is probably somewhere around the birth of human language.
