What tone arm do I have?????

SteveHammond

Beautifully Restored by the grace of God!
Can someone please help me to identify this tone arm so that I can get the correct litterateur on it and set it up correctly. Thank you as far as the cartridge I’m not sure what it is either. I traded a fully restored pioneer rt-701 for it. I’m just not sure what I have other than a Kenwood kd-500 and this tonearm?????

Very low mass for high compliance cartridges. Folks love em but the need for high compliance cartridges makes it less desirable to me. I'd want one just because there is the BW emblem, the red hourglass on the front of the armrest arm.

I have that same combo of KD-500 and Black Widow., but with an ADC XLM cartidge. Since I went down the LOMC black hole it hasn't seen much use, but a couple of Audio Technica's new versions of the AT-OC9 (M/L III and XSL) might be high-enough compliance to work with the Black Widow.

I’m a bit lost on the terms high compliance and low compliance cartridge??

I’m just curious, I get a lot of feedback when I turn up the volume on my pre amp and I have and bass in the mix at all. Is there anything I can do to fix that?

great classic table/arm combo, always liked the Black Widow, legendary status when I was a teen

have one of the other typical setups with this table utilizing the Grace G707 arm.

yes, sending pm

So we can't get in on this solution?

Before making recommendations, need to know how you have the gear set up. Folks need to keep the TT away from the pounding bass from the speakers as well as accurately dial in the set up of the arm/cartridge. Then if it still happens there are steps that can be taken to eliminate the feedback. The KD tables made from Kenwood's ARCB should not feedback except when not used correctly. They are way more immune to feedback than most tables because of their mass.

I would definitely like to know how to properly set this table up. I understand how a denon, dual, marantz, and pioneer tables and tonearms are set up but this tonearm is like nothing I’ve ever had before same with the table so it would be nice to know how to properly setup the arm and cartridge as it should be. My denon dp-51 never feeds back and it goes in the same spot as the KD.

As stated, vintage "high" compliance cartridges will work better than most of the current low and medium compliance cartridges of today.

The KD500/KD550 is a solid turntable, and the Black Widow after market arm was considered outstanding in its day.
