What was the first rock album that you bought as a kid?

I bought three albums at the same time at age 10. Grand Funk's red album, Seppenwolf Monster, and a Janis Joplin album I dont remember the name of. My parents hated them.
Funny you say that. One of my Mom's favorite albums was her copy of Janis Joplin's "Greatest Hits". I grew up listening to Janis! God rest your soul Mom - you were a PITA, but had great taste in music.

“Living in the Material World” (1973)

I was 11, and was tired of having to borrow my older siblings’ records to play on my Wards stereo, and no one had this. Guess I thought it would impress them. And I liked all things Beatles. Don’t remember if it did, but, costing more than a few week’s allowance and/or money from lawn mowing jobs, it was a major purchase for me. I was probably shaking when I brought it to the cash register. You’d think I’d just put a down payment on a house.

BTW, my first 45 was:

This purchase did impress the cute blonde neighbor girl, who couldn’t believe I had my own record player in my room.

I was given my first rock record by my uncle ..... he worked for Capitol records in Scranton PA. He gave me Grand Funk Railroad "On Time". I played it so much you could see through it! I had been searching for another to replace it for YEARS. You wouldn't think a first Scranton press of this album wouldn't be hard to find in NM condition! :rflmao::rflmao:BUT.....I found one. I paid dearly for it but it brought back those 9 yr old days!!!
