What was your first "real" stereo system?

my first real system was a technics sa-5760 reciever that i bought at a local repair shop for 50 bucks, technics sb-x500 honeycomb disc speakers technics sl1200 turntable technics cassette deck pioneer eq and reel to reel all the other equipment i bought new when i was 16 back in 82 wish i still had the stuff

1972. Lafayette LR-810 receiver. Lafayette something-or-other cassette deck. Garrard table. Criterion (Lafayette) speakers.

1974, I had an HH Scott 340B receiver, Optimus 1 speakers, Dual 1218 turntable a Sony TC-600 reel to reel and an Ampex 960 reel to reel. That was my senior year of high school. Good times.

Since my clunky all-in-one Electrophonic system in high school doesn't count, I bought my first real stereo in the summer of 1977:
Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amp
Technics ST-7600 tuner (nice wood case)
Pioneer PL-12D TT (still have it)
Sony TC-377 reel-to-reel (still have it, though not working)
Homebrew 3-way speakers with Utah woofers and Philips mids and tweets

In 1976 I saved money to buy my first audio system, which consisted of a Harman/Kardon receiver, BIC turntable, and a pair of Advent speakers. Some times I wish I had that setup back, but I do have good memories of that time and it put out some awesome sound.

c. 1980, bought new and was my only system for 15 years —

Nikko NA-850
Technics SL-D2
Kenwood KT-80
Bose 501 Series III

First half way decent system was a 70 watt MCS rack system, followed by a 110 watt MCS rack system. First real system I bought as an adult was a Harman Kardon PM 655 vxi and some Klipsch KG4's. System rocked pretty darn good.

The first ones worth mentioning were acquired one piece at a time:

a JVC VN-700 integrated amp (about 1974 -- still have it)
Altec Lansing Model 9 speakers (about 1976 -- still have 'em)
Pioneer PL-10 turntable with a B&O cartridge
Teac CX-350 cassette deck

I put a lot of miles on that stuff for a long time . . .

I headed off to the dorm with a Pioneer SA 6500 II integrated amp, but I cannot remember the TT or speakers. They were new, and about the same quality level. Paid for by working part time at a toy store, and later washing dishes.

Toshiba sa-7100 receiver
Marantz 880hd speakers
Marantz 6170 turntable. With a pickerington xsv3000 cartridge
Marantz cassette player (don't remember the model )

WOW...lots of memories!

First .... I purchased a demo Fisher 222 reciever at MusicCraft in Skokie
IL. summer of 1973. I was 12 years of age. I had a pair of Fisher 2-way shelf speakers my Dad had handed down to me when he purchased his Sansui/KLH system for the family at christmas of 1972. The Fisher reiever and speakers seemed to match up well. From there I purchased a pair of Marantz 4G's and a Marantz 6300 TT at a store called Sound Experience in Northbrook IL. about a year later. Around 1979 I purchased a Marantz 1060 integrated and some monster Cerwin Vega 15's which I can't recall the model number. OH...sorry...my first stereo. Sheesh, I could go on forever.

Dynaco Pas 3 pre ("real")

Dynaco Stereo 70 amp ("real")

AR LST II speakers ("real")

Technics SLQ-2 table(huge mistake)

I bought my first decent stereo between senior year in HS and the start of college (1976). I got a package from Wall to Wall Sound. It was an Onkyo receiver, a Pioneer turntable with an Audio Technica cartridge and some 3-way speakers under the name of WALD. I also had a basic cassette deck that was a Superscope.

1972 (or thereabouts):

Marantz 2245 (still have)
Thorens TD125 MK2 (still have)
AR-2ax speakers
Koss headphones

At the age of 13, I was very fortunate to have an uncle who gave me his old system:

Fisher 800B
Thorens TD-124 with SME 3009 arm
Tandberg RtR
Wharfedale W70's

I listened to that system all through my teenage years.
