What's best to clean the face of a vintage receiver?

Arthur was able to replace the two broken switches but not able to source the blade switch covers so the hunt for a couple of these is still on.016.JPG

Just an idea, but since I never use an eq, I'd simply remove the lowest and the highest blade swtich covers(for visual balance) and use THOSE for the time being. Less likely to actually need them on the eq.

Good idea but the eq switches have different smaller caps, the tape mon source switch is the same type and size,it's the one in the picture I posted.

Well at long last I got the call Friday, Kenny is coming home.
If Arthur is home toady I'll go get the big old beastie and bring it home.
Still looking for the toggle switch caps.
I'll be needing some bigger speakers, just missed a good deal on some Cornwalls yesterday on craigslist but I'll keep looking for the right deal.
Anyone have a thought on Speakerlab Corner horns? I see a set on cl for $800,says "similar to Klipsch Corner horns" and "built-in 1985 with Electro Voice components" . I know what Klipsch Corner horns cost so I wouldn't expect these to be equal but they might be pretty good and affordable?
I'm tempted by these but they're 160 miles away in Seattle so I need to do some research before going all the way up there to look at and hear them.

Back in the day, manufactures recommended cleaning faceplates with vinegar/water mix. Vinegar is a mild acid, and will work. Lately, I've used Windex, and or a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Just do not oversaturate the faceplate with fluid, avoiding getting fluid behind the faceplate. After cleaning, I use a really good car wax to shine up the faceplate. After the waxing, the faceplate feels like new. Have a supply of Q-Tips for tight areas. Pull knobs, let them soak in Windex, (they will have the most grime on them from being used more often. Use a light touch, as mentioned, to avoid letter removal.

I’ve done quite a bit of this with some pretty nasty looking units. They can be great deals if you can get rid of the smell. Vacuum the insides and use a long soft thick paintbrush of about 1/2 inch to 1 inch diameter to brush all you can get at while holding the vacuum just above it. Careful of wiring etc.

For the silver face, I used to use cleaners and now only use a small amount of warm water and dish soap. I used to use magic eraser, but highly recommend you don’t use it. It will take of the protective coating on the metal and leave marks you can’t get rid of.

The warm soapy water works quite well most of the time, and doesn’t do any damage.

I'm all done with the receiver, it cleaned up nicely and I refinished the wood case if you look through the rest of the posts here. I'm getting it back from a tech today after having lights replaced and a general service done, he's had it a few months so I'm excited to get it home.

Well I sealed a deal on these for $700,picking them up Saturday morning.
I can't wait to here these monsters behind the big Kenwood.

Well I found them! Had to buy a complete set of knobs and caps from a KR-8010 and paid through the nose for them ($100) but I'm happy to even find them
I was beginning to think I'd never find those toggle caps, rare as hens teeth! Now I need to find replacement switches as the ends are broken off.

Good Find. I’ve had an Eleven G for a few years now. I’ve also been looking for the power switch ‘knob’ just as long. Can you tell me of other compatibile models? I recently bought what was listed as what I needed, turns out it is a complete switch for the model I-III. If anyone needs one, I’m your guy.

So is that switch the wrong switch for an Eleven G? I need both the power switch and the M.A.G. switch for my Eleven G.
Mine both work but the ends are broken off, I'll need to repair or replace them both to finish this project.
As for the power switch cap you need I have one extra, almost hate to part with it as hard to come by as they are. lol
As I posted above the KR-8010 has the same knobs and I spent $100 to get them but I got a complete set that had 3 of the toggle caps and I only needed two.
How about $25 for the one? I almost feel bad asking that much for a single knob but it's a unicorn and I spent $100 to get two of them.

image.jpg Yeah, it’s not the correct switch. It has a flange that fits behind the face plate to fill in the gap I’m assuming.
