If you open up one of your closets and see it's 'full' of stereo gear 'you don't use'...your hoarding, maybe. It all depends on your situation.
Maybe you have 2 extra sets of speakers for a special reason, maybe they work or not? Ok, no problem. Maybe your keeping that special amp that's broke or that other little amp just because it sounds so wonderful, or whatever reason...ok, no problem. Maybe your spare closet is really small!! But to keep any more that that...what's the reason for keeping?? Your never going to use it and it will never be fixed, believe me. It's just 'broken gear adrift' really, junk, unless it's really 'special or rare' and you will get to it...someday. (You'll never get to it.) It will just be there forever.
Collecting is collecting. Nothing wrong with collecting things. It keeps your mind occupied, a hobby, something to do, a fun thing to do, it makes you happy, and sometimes it's even worth some money, but in general rarely. If your closets are full of 'stuff' and 'junk' that you will 'never use'...that's hoarding for no reason. It would be much better to have the empty closet space, get rid of the clutter, and be able to breath again. And if it's sellable, to have the extra cash in your pocket.
Everyone hoards. It's human nature. One is good, more it better. It's "hard wired in our brains". Hunter/gatherers. It's just 'stuff'. You don't need it. I do need to follow my own advice too!! LOL.
It's amazing that this topic came up. I'm really in the process, mentally so far, of getting rid of a lot of my 'stuff'. It's 'good stuff' but I know if I sold it I would feel a lot better because I just don't really need it, never have needed it really, it's just 'stuff'. Not not clutter, but then again...maybe it is.
Side note: In my neighborhood, I drive around and when I see people's garage doors open, at least 1/2 (ok. 1/3+ (one out of every 3) for sure) of them is so full of junk, 'stuff', that they can't even get their car in the double garage. I'm amazed they can even get their garage doors closed! What in the world is that all about???? It's funny really, just as long as it's not my garage. Overwhelmed by 'stuff'. Guess they need an even bigger house so they can store their 'stuff' and still live. And then they could get/accumilate even more 'stuff'.
Extra 'Stuff' is really not necessary. What's the reason? OK, you have 17 jackets, and nice ones too. You can only wear one at a time. And it's even worse if you live in Florida where you don't even need a jacket. (I originally came from Chicago and did live in cold climates so there is a reason but I sure don't 'need them' anymore). When I was young I really always wanted a leather jacket but it was beyond my price range. Now I have 4. I will keep those! :>)
