What's the most expensive part in your system?

If I hadn't lucked out on the used market, my Solosound electrostatic speakers would've been the most expensive by a significant margin.

It would have to be my TT(Technics SL-1200MK2). Just purchased it 2 weeks ago for $300, with cartridge and headshell. The thing is in MINT condition. As the price of these are skyrocketing now that they have stopped making them.

Those are my most expensive pieces to date and I haven't had to retube yet. It's followed closely by my tt set up.
Just exactly when are you going to "get off your ass" and rebuild those strombergs?

I got no clue.. I want to get them done pretty bad, but I got so many freakin irons, and not much fire..

I do need to get to work on them though, because I want to use them in the basement with my JBL's

Right now up and running, I would say my Marsh pre amp and the tubes I roll in it.

If ever I get my Koss stats fixed, it will be them.

I'm doing a lot of MS Excel work today. :)

Here's the % breakdown for my stuff:

CDP - 1%
Cassette - 1%
KLH Six (including recap and new grills) - 2%
Kenwood TT - 7%
Tuner - 10%
Dual TT (including service) - 11%
Amp (including rebuild) - 25%
Cornwall (including recap) - 43%

wow.. now that's a breakdown.. I would have no idea how to figure that.. or remember what I paid for most my stuff..

I paid the most for my speakers (new retail). But the highest original price point would be held the Well Tempered Record Player. Add to that the price of the cart, phono amp and cables, and the original cost of the analog front-end nearly triples the original cost of the speakers.

But in reality, the analog front cost almost exactly the same as the speakers.

I've been lucky to pay way under fair market value for most of my gear. I paid the most for my phono cartridge, and it's the only item I bought new (except for my fairly cheap DVD/CDP). A very close second (within 10%) were my La Scala speakers. Nothing else even comes close, thought a few pieces are worth as much or more than the cart or speakers.

It would be, strictly based on what I paid -vs- value, my stack of SAE (pre-amp, power amp, tuner) for $225 off CL. That is 3 items, but even at $75 each, it is my biggest outlay of dough. Guess I walk that fine line between frugal and cheap too.

Never crossed my mind about the media...now that you guys mention it though.

Not sure with over 1800+ CD's some bargain bin scores, some high priced OOP HTF, then theres my 300+ LP's, around 400 8-tracks, 200+ cassettes, not to mention my vast collection of music & concert Laserdiscs.

A rough estimate would be $6000 to $18,000 over the course of 32 years?

I rather not think of the money I've spent, and enjoy my music...

in my main system it used to be my speakers (jbl l100) but I changed them out for som cheaper L65, so I'm not sure now...
