Snagged a pair of HK775 mono's. One working, the other not.

I'm told that the previous owner knocked the RCA out of the amp while it was on and powering a pair of 2 ohm Beveridge speakers. Apparently that was all she wrote.

Well if it had to give up the magic smoke it went out in grand style. I heard a pair once and they were driven alternately by stacked Ampzillas or the biggest ARC made at the time. Pretty much ruined my ears for anything else for life, but light years beyond my budget. I’ll bet those are well worth fixing.

Sennheiser HD600 headphones and a record.

Excellent album choice! When I was in grade school, I bought a very high quality portable cassette recorder player -- cannot for the life of me remember the brand or model (and I've tried) -- but I was thrilled because a) it was marked down a lot because the battery door was broken and I could afford it; b) It came with a cassette of Maynard's Chameleon album that somebody had randomly left in it.

I was a trumpet player, and was doing my best to be Maynard -- just not possible, I think you had to be a freak of nature to do what he did (wish I had discovered Chet Baker earlier, which was achievable). I saw Maynard live many times -- when he was playing at Walt Disney World in a white suit to a huge crowd in the 1970's, through the Blue Note in NYC in 2006, which I think was his last performance. I even saw a Stan Mark concert in the 70's -- which was his 2nd trumpet at the time. In his last show, he still hit every note -- never once saw him miss. In later years, he always featured very young players. In his last concert, I remember him introducing a young player (can't remember his name) saying "He's not just a great high-note player, he's a great soloist as well ... which is why I never let him solo :)". (he did actually let him solo though).

His best song ever in my opinion is La Fiesta (written by Chick Corea) on the Chameleon album. Gonna Fly Now is great on Conquistador (never quite warmed up to Mister Mellow though).

Mr. Mellow is kind of out of place with the rest of the album. The Fly and especially Conquistador are my favorites.

The intro to Conquistador is pretty epic. His tone is so great in the lower registers I’m surprised he didn’t use it more.

I think Chameleon is his best album if you haven’t heard it. I’m not actually a fan of the song Chameleon, but the rest of the album is great.

I need to get another copy of Chameleon, my house fire burned up all my vinyl back in 2020. Slowly replacing everything. I like M.F Horn Live at Jimmy's too.

I upgraded the 2 front subs (9" sealed+ two 10" bass radiators) to 2 sealed direct servo Rythmik F12G subwoofers (12") and freaking goosebumps galore! Bigger soundstage, 3D, kick drums beat my chest and the room is pressurized. I can now turn the volume up and bass stays tight/real instead getting boomy. Now sounds like real instruments instead of a subwoofer.

NOTE: I can adjust from song to song by controlling the tone/gain/crossover via:

Parasound 2100 preamp

2 active analog crossovers (with volume knobs for highpass/midpass/lowpass)

NAD C298 gain knob for FR5's tweeter

volume controls on all 6 subs

I hate to say it (at the risk of being offensive), but when the subs are correctly dialed in, you should never need to adjust the level for any song. Subs can't really ever be boomy when properly set up because the subs take over exactly has the mains roll off. Boomy usually comes from having the crossover too high so that the mains and sub are doubling output in the overlap frequencies. For a song that has a lot of content in those overlap frequencies, you will need to reduce the sub volume to eliminate boom (at the expense of deepest bass from the sub). When a song comes on that has little content in the overlap area, then it will sound like the sub is barely there from the prior setting, and it needs to be turned up. Phase need to be set first (it's literally impossible to tune any sub unless phase is correct).
